• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Holding off on the Avsim fund

Well I don't wanna step on anybody toes in here...and Avsim if it goes back on line will always except a donation from SOH anytime. I for one really miss them...it was the first stop I made each day along with many members in here. But again every time I have asked for the members support, they came to my rescue....that would make any member in here feel good to know that we have that kind of help and support when needed. It is nice to know we have that kind of back up in here and I for sure don't want to lose the trust I have in here. The money isn't worth the trust. Once that bond is gone it's hard to get back. So I still would like to hold off a bit when it comes to someone else's money....I hope you guys understand. If ya feel ya really wanna donate you can go to there forum and they have a PP donation area. I would like to give it a couple of weeks and see what comes about.

The latest bit of news is very, very encouraging.

The synopsis is this...

The Board of Directors of AVSIM tonight voted in the affirmative to purchase a dual set of either IBM x3650 or HP G6’s (we decided not to go with Blades because of delivery and configuration issues). Whichever we choose, they will be equipped with 48 gigs of RAM and some very serious hard disk storage. We will have those delivered to the NOC on Friday of this week. The total cost of those servers will be in excess of $24,000. This has been made possible almost entirely by the donations that have been sent to AVSIM over the last six days. Again, thank you! We will be placing this order tonight or tomorrow morning.

<SNIPPED brevity for>
...snipped for brevity...

In any case, it is our goal to have a rudimentary web site up by Sunday evening EDT.

Moe, I understand how you feel. I just thought it might be a workable idea. And if that route isn't workable, no problem. ;) :ernae:

Whatever the out come, I gave anyway as it's as if a friends in need and the site has given me much in return prior to the "incident".
If we give a SOH donation later that would be good as well but only at the appropriate time. :ernae:

I hate to be curious or conspiritory..But is it possible this whole thing is a delusion? No one has mentioned anything like that..There is probably hand over foot donations to Avsim right now and then at some point they say "Hey..we got it fixed and everybodys files are saved" Just a thought

For that to be true, It would presume a tremendous amount of dishonesty on the part of many people associated with Avsim. Those folks are known well in this hobby field by many, many persons.

People that corrupt could not have created and sustained a site like Avsim.

Rgr... I know those people.... been to 2 past FanCon's (San Diego and Seattle). Those are real people and they are honest people. Have done a lot for the FS community.

Some people from here I have met at these conventions will back me up.

Having known the people at AVSIM for the better part of ten years, there is absolutely no way anything like you suggest could be true.

In fact, the very mention of the idea is quite odious and offensive.

.............GUYS
..all ya gotta do is remember how much youve downloaded "seamlessly" from the lengendary AVSIM :ernae:
...........AVSIM and SIMVI are the classic "Landing fields"
(first watering holes to visit) of our obsession so why hassle over any money donated to this noble site
............for me it (in all truthfullnes) adds up to about a cent a download from AVSIM so i aint gonna quibble and if more dollars are needed in the future to keep AVSIM's flag flying ,i'm in,and if you go ahead trusty MOE count me in too
.same for SOH 's flag too:engel016:

Its a sad kind of life
when we do not trust people
who have been a major part of our own life
even virtually.
It amazes me!
if that was the case where do the donations for the OH go
i get a brand new street Lady every week:kilroy::applause:
LOL
Im not getting into Moes point
if we add Avsims donations to ours
thats another story and i have no opinion as yet
But innuendos as to where and how the money is spent
im still amazed
if ya dont want to donate dont if ya do, do
please do not bad mouth
something that have given thousands of people
a place to go over the years and take freely all downloads
that in my mind is just totally negative

Hi,

""I hate to be curious or conspiritory..But is it possible this whole thing is a delusion? No one has mentioned anything like that..There is probably hand over foot donations to Avsim right now and then at some point they say "Hey..we got it fixed and everybodys files are saved" Just a thought""

Wow, that is really paranoid! But hey, I thought Saturn3 was probably true:wavey:

Andy.

They have been able to recover the entire files database, thankfully!

That is GREAT news. Aside from the aircraft and scenery files, which would be a tremendous loss in and of themselves, losing all those amazing utilities that AVSim had in their library would have been even more of a loss. Hopefully the forums can be recovered so that all that information and knowledge can be preserved.
