Honeymoon's over; back to P3D for now.

My 'rep' at the MS Mother Ship confirmed that weapons cannot be displayed on the Microsoft Store. I suggested that I could sell my products there with weapons made "invisible", and was told that this was perfectly acceptable. So I think that this is a display issue rather than anything else. FSX shipped with the FA-18, but it was an unarmed Blue Angels version, so this in principal for flight simulator is nothing new. There is nothing at all about "warbirds" being blacklisted in any way, just their armaments as far as I know.

My solution is to disable the XML gauge that controls weapons selection / visibility for the MS Store version, but include clear instructions on how to re-activate them in the manual. Keeps everybody happy, hopefully :)

Works like steam and simmarket with logos/insignia then. Only difference is that steam and simmarket actively prohibits you from linking or even mentioning how to enable insignias. Hopefully MS doesnt put that into it's stipulations. :encouragement:

I have read elsewhere that Microsoft's ban on weapons on aircraft available from the in-game marketplace most likely has to do with the problem it would cause in being in conflict with the "E for Everyone" ESRB rating.

Yep...thought it was probably something exactly like that...well, anyway, back to P3D (for other reasons)...

Of course nothing is stopping anyone from selling their aircraft products, however they want them, weapons and all, on their own websites or through vendor websites, and Microsoft/Asobo encourages that too.

That's absolutely right, and given the 2-4 week check-over that MS will be giving third-party products before they appear in store, I reckon most of mine will be on the third-party sites long before they appear at MS for that very reason.

Heading back to the OP's original thread subject, I love the new sim and have no intentions of using the older platforms again for flying fun - as others have said, it's early days and the SDK is woefully inadequate, but we're getting there. I start full-time on MSFS development tomorrow ( conversions of my existing products ) :)

I value this community, and so I will share my thoughts... one opinion only.

MSFS is in its infancy. In a year, it will blossom and all our flight simulation will never be the same again. I see enough potential in the sim, for me to say this publicly. I will give you- my wife frequently thinks I am wrong.

Let's re-visit in October 2021... I'm betting that 70%+ of the FS crowd will be on MSFS by then. Obviously, will still be some who expound on the value of using FS98...

I have drunk the Kool-Aid, and it's wonderful :)

I tend to agree. From all accounts, MSFS is an immature product and sounds to me like it was released as a high beta. Sometime next year, and maybe not a whole year from now, it will be a fully functional flight simulator.
