Hot enough for ya

Feeling it here too...for most of the week it appears that the heat-index (what it actually will feel like) will be 110-115+...which is downright crazy when you consider just 6-7 months ago, we were dealing with -50 wind chills, and one of the biggest blizzards on record!

For those in the dry-climates that have never heard of 'heat-index' before - it's what you get when you combine both high temperature and humidity. : )

(At least it makes you better appreciate 'nice' weather ; ))
 
Odd Weather

I feel for you guys. Here in the Pacific Northwest, I don't think we've had but two days that even tickled 80 degrees. As I type this at 5:30 PM, it is 61 degrees and I think that is about the high for today. Made for a nice 3 mile run an hour ago.
 
Around here we don't need a heat index. When it feels like 115 it really is 115. Just a couple of weeks ago we got up to 118. Currently 109 after a high of 111 with a dewpoint of 33. Have some big thunderstorms moving up from Tucson...hope it rains this time. Last time we just got one heck of a dust storm (haboob) and a couple of sprinkles.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids (water, gatorade) and try to stay in an air conditioned area.
 
We drove up to a wedding in Duluth on June 10th. As we got to Bloomington, IL it was around 90 and humid. Within an hour of driving north the temperature had dropped 30 degrees, thunderstorms and hail (and were watching for tornadoes).

We cut up to Superior - Duluth from Eau Claire the day AFTER that heat wave had gone through (locals said it was close to a 100) and practically froze to death in Duluth then up on the Iron Range.

Some real extremes.
 
Been nice this weekend, but Wednesday it was 108 F w/humidity. You walked out and you were wet.

It is an odd year, currently we are running 15 or so degrees under our average temps and 30 or so under our record temperatures here in upstate California.

Heat index at the WI/Yupper boarder is 103F at this moment and Eta to massive storm 15mins. Ah well time for Beer and cheese and watch the light shows:icon_lol:

Here in N. Texas we've had 2 weeks of 103 to 107. we tied the record set in 1978
which had 107 for the same 2 weeks back then. however last night we got a
short rain for 30 to 40 min. At 10:00 am it was 90 degrees. It's way too hot for me.
I like it around 75 to 85 degrees anything more is too hot. I've lived here since 1966
and still won't get used to it.
 
106 here today in SW Missouri, with heat index of 111. Two days ago it was 107, which broke the previous record of 105 that had stood for 53 years....ugh.

We're probably going to have the excessive heat warning through Saturday. Totally sucks.
 
For all of those like me, planning a trip to the ultimate aviation 'mecca' next week, AirVenture, I'm hoping the weather cools down/dries out a fair bit from that of what we are eperiencing this week!. : )
 
Hey Spit, how far "North" are you in TX? I have family up in the panhandle in Dalhart, Dumas, and Pampa!

As far as heat, I'd rather be in 110° and dry than 90° with high humidity. With high humidity, your body's natural cooling system can't funtion properly. When it's dry, you sweat, the water evaporates, any you stay cooler due to the cooling effect. In high humidity, sweat just drips off without providing any benefit.

They announce on the news today that OK's capital building had to shut down due to a water main brake, which in turn caused the air conditioning to shut down. I'm betting there's quite a few around NC that are scratching their heads because they've never seen a "swamp cooler" in action. They just don't work around here.

What Spit said except that we didn't get the short rain. Have lived here since 1965 and not used to it either. :ichile:
 
On our third day of six or seven 95+ degree days. With the yuck factor we're around 115 to 120. Drink lots of fluids (no alcohol or soda) and stay out of it if you can. Had all heat emergencies today of people working outside, one of them didn't make it.

I live between Mckinney and Love field. I don't mind dry heat, it's the humidity.
 
It's summer! It's always hot in summer.

I have a beef with the "heat index" garbage. If it's 98 degrees here, and it feels like 110, then what exactly does 98 feel like? If it feels like 110, and we get to 110, what does 110 actually feel like because then they'll say it feels like 120? It's all crap designed to make us all feel worse, and I'm a little put out that they did not ONCE today tell me the temperature forcast on the radio. Well, they said "high 90's" but they give you a number on the heat index.
