Hot enough for ya

Here in central Virginia it's hot and humid. Yesterday was 100F, today's forecast is 102F. I get to be a pall-bearer in a funeral this afternoon. Dress code is full suit.

You need to check around for a better price. What size unit do you have. The compressors go for around 190.00 to 250.00. R-22 sells for around 90.00 for a 30 pound jug. You are a home owner so you don't have to recover it. The are four bolts that hold it down and three wire. A red/ blue and black. Red is run/ white is common and black is start. You should cut the compressor and and buy a dryer and ask them what they would charge just to sweat it in and you do the rest. 450.00 to five hundred sounds about right for everything including parts and labor.
I'm melting here in Northwest Indiana. It was 86ºF in my bedroom most of the night...

...with the window a/c unit going full blast!

Unfortunately, the compressor on my central air blew out about a week after the warranty ran out...

...and I simply can't afford the $1,000+ they want to replace it and recharge the system. :gameoff:

Somewhere on or around my desk I have the exact information, but it's largely irrelevant at this juncture. With my current state of health, I'm no longer physically able to do the "grunt work," although I do remain technically capable enough.

I did go to WallyWorld day before yesterday and picked up a new Haier 6,000 BTU window unit for my bedroom, and moved the ancient (13 year old) Maytag 5,000 BTU window unit to the kitchen. $155 + tax wasn't all that much to spend.

Between the 10k unit in the living room, and the other two units, I've managed to get the house down to a comfy 72ºF. As long as I don't let the heat build up again inside, the units cycle on/off normally and shouldn't be any more expensive than the 10 ton central a/c was when it worked.

Oh, and here in Indiana no one except a licensed contractor can even buy R-22...
