Designed as an assault glider in response to German success with gliders in Belgium in 1940, the GA Hotspur was relegated to training duties when the larger Horsa design was preferred for attack purposes. Nevertheless the Hotspur was used in the training of all British glider pilots who became the Glider Pilot Regiment as part of the Army Air Corps in early 1942.
