Houston we have a problem!

The second view was 3.5 miles from the launch pad. :geek:
Time it takes the sound to arrive divided by 7 is the distance.

And yeah, this is pretty messed up. Some of these programs should be well-clear of the Explody phase.

Is there ever a non-explody phase with rockets?

Those things can be more explosively temperamental than a perimenopausal woman when there is no ice-cream or chocolate in the house!:oops:
Anything man made is prone to break. When the wrong part breaks at the right time...

Yep Big BaDa Boom

It is a testament to safety protocols that no one died.

Rockets are hard...

The very principle of a rocket engine is the barely constrained and directed output of an explosive chemical reaction. One mechanical failure either through design or manufacturing error takes away the constraint element and leaves you with just the explosion part! That's rocket engine design 101 right there in a nutshell.
