I'm not sure if I'll be able to join tonight. We had an electric shot down last night and for now, the only way I can connect to the net is by WiFi. I need to check my connection from A to Z to find what's wrong. I know nothing about router and I think the last time I played with the configuration of a modem was with a 14.4 so any help would be appreciated.

It always reset by itself when I disconnect the power cords of the modem and the router but now it don't work. Windows say I'm connected but each site I try it give me a page not found.

For now, the only clues I got is a message about a duplicated IP, I think it was because I tried to connect wifi when I was already connected to the ethernet cable and maybe something about my firewall setup. I will shut it down during next test.

I know the modem is working because he give signal to the router and to my laptop by wifi. But if I try to connect by ethernet to the router or directly to the modem, it don't work. I' disconnected others computers just to be sure.

The router setup program can't pass trough the connection check cause it won't let me use the wifi connection to set it up. It give me 3 different error:

No connection
WiFi connection
Check Firewall

The modem is a Motorola SB5100
The router is a D-Link WBR-1310
and for now the Firewall is shutdown.

For starters......plug an ethernet cable directly from your PC into your router. Sounds to me like wireless access to your router GUI is disabled. (A good security precaution, but not so good if you're trying to get in via wireless). Once plugged in via ethernet cable, you should be able to access the router GUI.

Cheers,

If you still can't get in, might be a good idea to do a hard reset on your router as well (set it back to factory defaults). Should be a little button on the back of it that allows for that. You will have to set the wireless config back up from scratch if you do that. Make sure you secure things properly.

Cheers,

I use a usb connector to go directly to the modem so I'll be able to connect tonight. Will need to set it up later.
