I cleaned many a canopy glass during my career. I bet I can get the oil off that canopy! 
That, and scratches and crazing...... Anything to keep from having to do a replacement. I.E. Replacing a canopy on a Corsair II could take 3 hours, or 3 days. Depended on how difficult it was to line up the eccentrics for a tight seal on the canopy sil.
Not fun.
