How Are These One in the Same?

I just don't get it...

Please take just a few seconds (that's all it takes too, since they are so different!) to compare the canopy, landing gear position, cowling, prop, fuselage, (how the fuselage blends into the cowling!), tail, wings, antenna wires, pilots, tail hook, etc., they all look quite different to me. This coming from the viewpoint of a developer, and this is just a 'general' comparison - it can go into much more detail if needed!

To me, I don't see any evidence what-so-ever that shows that the superb freeware Grumman Duck, which I find superior in many regards, has anything in common with the payware example. To allege they are one in the same is just absurd. Despite being representations of the same plane, they are completely different.

I hope that this is enough investigation to put a stop to this matter, quick, and I hope that the freeware example is made rightfully available again soon...it is a brilliant addition to our flight sim hobby.

These look nothing alike, beyond them being the same subject material. There are many differences.

Thank you John.

While I don't have a superior eye for detail like many people here, you can see clear as day, the float on the Icarus version looks like it is molded onto the fuselage, and on the freeware version, the float looks like it was added onto the fuselage.

Like the way it really is:

And just one more thing to add...I am in no way disagreeing with the actions that any of the moderators have taken on the original 'Duck' thread, or in any other matter I have ever seen on this board. I have nothing but respect for what they see fit to do per the information and circumstances they are immediately provided to act upon.

If this case wasn't so sad I would be rolling on the floor laughing, the freeware mesh looks closer to some drawings of the real thing I saw than the payware one (starting with the canopy indeed). I do hope AVSIMrus sees through this scheme and puts SWingmans's Duck back on where it should be.

Completely unjustified and uncalled for, the freeware version is entirely different than the payware version, i suggest reinstating the files and a public apology should be made.
Best regards

I agree completely

For anyone who installed the latest improvements, add the following "exits" entry to the aircraft.cfg file. It was left out and the rear canopy will not open without it.

[exits]
number_of_exits=2
exit_rate.0=0.4 ;Percent per second

And also, I agree with everything said in this thread. I knew it was not the same plane as soon as I installed it. And the pictures prove it without a doubt.

Sad when a payware developer acts like that to get rid of the freeware competition...:kilroy:

Thanks for your clarification, John! :applause:

Greetings
Tim

That in no way is the same plane,they are no where alike.Making comments like Icarus did is a good way to drive customers away.

Completely different model. While I agree with Roger closing the other thread to investigate, I think it is now obvious that there is no piracy at play here and the Freeware Duck release thread should be re-opened with accusations of piracy deleted.

the rear passenger on the freeware doesn't have a gun, the arrester hook is different, the water rudder is different, the wheels are different, the float/fuse attatchment are different.
how different do they need to be?:kilroy:

This is most unfortunate... I was really looking forward to adding the rest of OBIOs tweaks for Swingman's Duck when I got home from work this evening and now I find everything shutdown. I hope that this misunderstanding will be rectified shortly.

I appreciate all of the efforts and talents that developers (payware and freeware) put into this hobby of ours. I'd hate to see an obviously talented freeware artist turned off due to an obviously flawed thought that this Duck was pirated! To add my opinion to this discussion, there is no comparison between this excellent freeware Duck and any aformentioned payware attempt at the same model. From what I can see the only comparison is that they are both called Grumman Ducks.

We have lost enough talent from this hobby over the last few years do to ill conceived comments from a few misguided individuals.

Okay... off the soapbox!

Mike

The real test would be to open them both with an appropriate viewer (Mdlview?) and see if the mesh is the same.

Best, Paul

It is interesting to read the review on the Icarus Grumman Duck at simFlight.COM. The closest picture they have to the freeware Duck is the one where they show a photo of the real world aircraft. The Icarus version is nowhere near as accurate to the real world model as the freeware version.

Trying to point out any similarities between the Icarus model and the freeware one is almost impossible; to point out all the differences, now that's easy!
