How do I install MSFS?

I just made the purchase, I'm told it's available to me but nothing about where it is or how to install. This may be a quick refund!!

Did you go Microsoft store, or Steam? I don't know about the store, but steam does offer you the possibility to install the sim into a location where you want it to be. What I do know, is that even the store version can be moved after the installation.

I got it through the store. Got the email concerning the purchase which linked back to the receipt in the Store. It says "Available to you" but no indication how to locate it to install?
 
Search the store for the version you bought. Once you pull up that listing, you'll see the Install button. The screenshot below is from my laptop which doesn't have the sim installed. (You can install to more than one device as long as you're signed into the same MS account.) The core files will install in their default location, then when you launch the sim for the first time, you'll be looking at several gig's of download and you'll have a choice of where to put that part.

I believe only the second set of files can be moved. The core files (including the main .exe) are in a separate location.

If you haven't installed yet, during the setup it will offer you the option of choosing a custom folder for the rest of the files it downloads.

Highly suggest creating something like C:\FlightSim and installing there. Much easier to find, and less likely to have issues if you ever try betas.

If you've already chosen the default folder and installed, you can just create a shortcut to that folder. But it's just way easier if you choose your own folder. (Also, less trouble with long path names.)
 
I'm on C:\MSFS2020 - MSFS2024 is at the door.
Sugestion: Keep It short and sweet 'cause Windows doesn't have infinit path length.....

I keep the location pinned to the Quick Access list on the left side of the files window. That way, I have it at my fingertips any time I need it.

What is the world coming to??? Geez, if Ed's going down the rabbit hole I might have to bite the bullet and follow him. Eventually. Maybe.

Things will be a bit different from FSX in the way they work, but worry not, there's a lot of similarities and you'll quickly find your way ;)

Before you face the inevitable horror: BY DEFAULT there are a few useless and annoying things or options which are set to active. I'm thinking about the gauges on the screen in external views, assistance options that make the flight too easy (see that as the automatic rudder option in FSX, for example), and more. It just takes a few minutes to set up the graphical and assistance options in the sim, and then they will be gone for good.
But it will definitely be irritating the first time, so just be ready :D
So don't hesitate to ask if something looks weird.

Yes, I've been navigating through the controllers setup in an attempt to get as many switches and buttons as I can working as they should. It reminds me of X-Plane actually. Also just setting up the cockpit views so that I clear out the constant movement of the camera. . .just stay in one place. . .geeeze, lol.

Can't wait to see you exploring the areas for which you had produced so many airports in FSX.

Great to hear you're in MSFS now. I'm holding off until FS2024 releases, but have been surfing the web for valuable info on the sim.

The overall look once in the air is amazing. Of course I had to try flying my home area (South Jersey) and was impressed with the "as real as it actually is" experience. My problem right now, and as I've searched for an answer, a problem that many others have as well is a constantly floating camera in the cockpit. I'm constantly having to reset the view to straight ahead even with TrackIR installed. It makes flying less than ideal as no one seems to know what is causing it or how to fix it.
 
This is weird, I use a VR headset (so 6-DOF just like a TrackIR) and my camera doesn't float around ?
I'll check in the options just in case, but I don't remember anything related to camera movements... could it be that some hardware axis is still assigned to some camera movement perhaps ?
