How do you fly in FSX?

Ive seen several comments lately about people not wanting to convert to either FS9 or FSX from CFS/2/3 because they dont want to fly for no reason.....that makes no sense to me...cfs you shoot things down all day or blow things up..yeah sure that's fun..but not realistic...in FSX ( my sim of choice) i chose to "pretend"...anyone remember they're imaginations?...lol

well i use mine...i decide on which plane im going to use,and then think up a plan..make a flight plan and go do the "chore"....maybe i took a friend from auburn to albany oregon..or maybe a group of tourists to Las vegas or maybe flying in the twin otter float plane in the Maldives as a taxi service where ive set up a round robin and i time myself,,,or if i want to fly my "rare hudson" i fly it from auburn to chino for the "wings of eagles airshow" and then back,

one thing i dont do is fly in "circles" unless im doing touch n go's in a new plane (to me) like ill do when i purchase the turbon duke

what say all of you?...how do you fly??

I mostly do hoplists, though now that I'm flying for Eagle Valley Air I fly regional and bush routes with some pretty awesome scenery and weather. It is a lots of fun! :wavey:

Most of my FS flying consists of touch and goes. For me it's landing the plane that has the most fun in FS. I very rarely actually fly from one place to another. I do think that something like Bush Flying Unlimited would be great fun, however. The fun parts of a virtual airline, without the hassle of ATC... I keep thinking we should have some sort of SOH version of BFU, but with a different concept. It would be fun to log into SOH, check out the "missions" that are awaiting pilots, pick one, fly it, log it, then post pics and tall tales about the flight.

99% of my flying these days is short test hops, whether testing new aircraft, scenery or paint schemes on aircraft in the case of the A2A WoP3 Spits, recently.

Given opportunity, I'd fly either GA from somewhere to somewhere else, depending on what I'm flying, or short haul/regional airliner hops. Up to a couple of hours, rarely more, because I simply don't have time. I have a sadly neglected FSPassengersX airline's BN-2 Islander stuck at Enniskillen that I'd like to get back to at some point too.

That said, right now, I'm on an epic (for me) test flight from KBOS to EINN in the PMDG B744RR. Only another three hours of gauge watching and occasional frequency changes left now. Tum ti tum!

normally i find a map of a state (If flying in the US) then close my eyes and point, nearest town/airfield to my finger is my start point, next time i close my eyes and point thats the destination, makes for some fun flights at times, especially when you have an entire Map of the US and you say "Right 5 places to visit..." then start pointing away... then figure as close a circuit as possible... or if i have a bush plane it's always "i'll go do some off airports stuff off in those mountains"...

overall though it's pure luck where i end up :icon_lol:

i appologise for the double post....

seems i hit the wrong button or something when i tried to edit the orignal post...duh...something i also do..i live in northern california..i fly severl differnat plane in this roll as none of mine are speciffically for this mission..but i overfly the canyons and what have you looking for "pot gorw sites" ofcourse they dont show that in flight sim..but i wish i knew how to do scenery and id set some up for online flying and have people fly and look for the "plantations" in the forests,,the eldorao and taheo national forests are FULL of pot grows IRL...i also like to have a plane at grass valley california...i have the flight sim running in the back ground with the abacus grumman S2T tanker,,( i like it)...in cold dark mode....i will hear a wildfire dispatch on my real life dispatch..i get the co-ords off the dispatch..look it up in either google earth or my delorme topo map ( which is also running in the background) and then start up the S2T and go fight fire....ill sometimes be able to time it realistically and be there the same time as my hero Hoser in T89,,and i do what the air attack tells him to do..including the load and return rutine...silly huh??? fun though.,,,,,:jump:

i also have the Lukla scener..in MY world..i live in a small house in Lukla,,and i fly out of Lukla in the mornings in my aerosoft twin otter and head to Katmandu..then return....
when i fly St Martin...i use the C208/BN2 or DHC6 ..im based in St Barths,,,( i have a house on the beach ofcourse) i fly from St Barths to Princess Juliana, then to Saba with Saba's mail, and then back to St Barths

Daveroo,
There was a friend of mine that made the statement like what you say here about FSX.
It was a Tongue-in-cheek statement like--- Will the weapons in FSX bring the Riff Raff into FSX.
I can tell you this. I know this guy pretty well and what he said was in an attempt to get people to start telling more about the weapons that have been made for FSX for people that want them.

Now that that has been sayed.
I like to fly Hop's from WCH and millitry missions that I can find. And ya, make videos.

My time spent using FSX is a couple hours a week give er take and normally involves short trips between Vancouver , Comox and Victoria in all kinds of weather.

I prefer round engines and Comox is where I will introduce all new aircraft and put them through my test envelope, lots of open space over the salt chuck and a fairly long north / south runway to come home to. If I feel like a change of pace I'II fly east over the Coast Mountains to the interior of Bristish Columbia say the Okanagan Valley grab a burger and a pop and head back ........ just pointer west and look for the water !!

The hardware is straight forward , CH Yoke (old version) with pedals and a few years back I picked up the CH throttle quadrant, all working well . :jump:

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Fast and & low, point to point in a tactical jet, with actual RW weather conditions, staying below radar coverage, ending in a pop-up or lay-down simulated attack on the welcoming airfield and a round or two at the O club. :)

I tried jumping off the roof...once. Seriously tho I'm alot like Smoothie, only I have a World atlas. Like flying the old four engine heavies the most.

Right now I'm combining a round Australia trip with a chance to spend some time in the aircraft I've collected, but not really used.

Currently I have the IRIS Vulcan waiting on a 5000ft runway in eastern Australia. I think tonights flight is going to be one leg of Vulcan and then switch to the A2A spit or b17.

If we go away for the weekend we drive, so I like to recreate the trip in a light ga aircraft and see how much quicker it would be if I had my PPL and could convince my wife to get in something smaller than a 757!

When i'm not buried in an fde ( and sometimes even when i am ) i love canyon diving.. I once had a flight through the himalaya's in a dragon rapide in clouds that went a lot closer to the ground than i could and with only a gps to guide me.. I distictly remember at one point, being able to see the mountain side off each wing tip, and i could barely see the wing tip.. I like the really insane stuff..

Almost exclusivly Carrier Qualifications, anything from the 1950's onwards that I can get my hands on. Can usually be found going on and off the Ark Royal about 200 miles west of Gibraltar.
Also partial to playing in the Alps with the Skysim Mirage IIIS.

I haul freight in a Caravan with Air Hauler out of Friday Harbor. I also have several test flight plans from FH to Skagit or Orcas and back which I use to test aircraft or just to go sightseeing in the San Juans. I go look at glaciers with a Super Cub out of Wrangell. I also have flown group flights around PNW/PFJ/NRM/TF online though not lately.

Sometimes I just go "punch holes in the sky."

Depends greatly on what Iam feeling like. I mostly fly vintage aircraft. For a short flight, bush flying, checking scenery, A2A's J3 works nicely. For something a little longer, a DC3 or Milton's Twin Beech or Fischer's Ju52. I like to recreate historic flights. I might jump in A2A's B17, and fly from one of Ian P's airfields to Germany and back. Mountain flying with FSGenesis mesh. Flying across the Pacific with Jens Fokker FVII.

Good question... I use different programs to fly different ways...

Ideal Flight - For GA / Military flights. Good for random hops and exploring the world etc..

Air Hauler - For flying cargo flights and running a company with a mix of props and jet a/c

FS Captain - Flying for an airline company, both modern Jets with Delta and FedEx and also 1940/50's company flying the Constellation and DC-3 etc... meeting timelines and flying by company procedures and policies

I find going from point "A" to point "B".is challenging! In any weather,..this in any plane..Dead Reckoning, charts, clock, and an E6B computer takes me back to an earlier time.....the Following of roads ,railroads is fun...however An ILS Cat III landing in weather is a great challenge also...other wise its Tooling around,in a simple plane, stick and rudder, enjoying the great scenery we enhanced FS9 with.Any and all Bill Lyons wonderful inputs rivet me to FS9..FSX is an other grand experience....I tend to have my mind to fill in the blanks!!..The Time Passes..and The Simulation is great fun!

Point to point, on instruments.

Seeing the ground is for wimps!

Seriously, I do like making instrument departures and approaches in a variety of conditions in GA aircraft. I also like long distances, but generally do not have the time available unless I chop these trips up into hops.

Not into tubeliners so much myself, but from what I read a number of you are, so more power to ya.

How do I fly? Like a total nut. Cutting off 747s in a 172 on the ground and in the air doing the exact opposite of what the ATC says. Landing on freeways buzzing the White House landing 737s on aircraft carriers(not successfully yet though). And my favorite is bombing the stadiums of the teams my favorite teams are playing. One day the virtual FAA will have my hide till then no one is safe in FSX.:jump:

Mine varies a great deal.

Sometimes I fly GA planes around the area where I live. Much of this is intended as practice for real flying. Much of this is touch and goes and trips to airports I can reach in under an hour.

At other times I like flying in ways I never could in reality. This includes carrier landings with WWII and modern jets. Aerobatics are also performed some times. Normally these flights are very close to some airport (PGSN and PGUA are favorites).

Other flights are just to enjoy the variety of sim technology. A2A's cub I like because my landings are rated. Planes requiring startup procedures and engine management are sometimes fun.

On a given day any variety of things catch my attention. Next week I plan to fly at least part of the Iditarod route again (it starts tomorrow).
