How do you fly

Hi Trap,

I use trakir, Full cockpit view, and occasionally turn on the radar set at 4 miles.

I use the radar as a pretend radio call from ground control, once I have a rough idea of were they are, I turn the radar off again and go looking for them.

I also use labels from time to time as my eyes struggle sometimes to pick them out even at short distances. but mostly just Trakir and full cockpit view.

regards Rob.

Cockpit view, no labels or tac etc. except, as Rob says, just briefly to get some situational awareness.

I use a Saitek Aviator stick, one the first ones with 'proper' toggle switches and a guard over the gun button (on top of the stick) which you have to flip to fire, just adds that little extra bit of immersion.

TrackIR and Full Cockpit View here as well.

I've got TripleHead2Go with the two outside screens angled in so I get the full wrap around effect. (3840 x 1024)

I recently started using the Logitech Force 3D Pro, with the thumb button set up as a gun camera trigger.

TrackIR, full cockpit view mostly, mostly radar and labels on but no target cone. Often flying with HUD displayed, as it's easyer to controll speed, altitude etc.

Monitor is a 22" 1680x1050. Got a Saitek X52, still thinking about getting some rudder pedals.

How do I fly?

Usually in tight circles headed for the dirt, trailing smoke and parts.

My attempts to fly involve Cockpit, trackIR, HUD and a Rabbits foot, I figure it didn't work for the Rabbit so maybe it has a little luck left in it.

Yes, the peripheral vision ability is a real factor in not getting target fixation quite as often. You'd be surprised how quick a glimpse of something that's not supposed to be there can send you into a life saving hard break. :salute:

I can believe that! I'm with the rest or you, except that I'm still struggling with TrackIR and my natural tendency to fly into the ground! The thing is, when you're looking up from say a Spitfire, you can't see the cockpit frame, so you lose your orientation with the aircraft, and sometimes with the outside world as well. That's something that I need to train about. It's easier with an aircraft like the Hurri, where you can always see a bit of the frame - that keeps you orientated to the aircraft.

I'v got two screens, but I can only fly with one, on the other is still the desktop. Somebody an idea how to change that?

If it works, maybe I'm going to buy a third screen.

I remember I could fly with two screen, using two video card output and the nvidia NView config tool. There was a clone mode (same thing on both screens), a mode that maximised only on one screen (usefull for text typing and the like) and a mode that allowed maximisationon both screens, as if there was only one.
It was a long time ago so I cannot be more specific ...

Anyway, having the gunsight split on two physical screens is not that good :) (a better use would be to stack the screens and have the gauges displayed on the lower one ...)

maybe, I'm also going to buy a third screen, but than I need to get a little bit more space on my desc (a lot of things lying around here).
And can I hold my normal videocard or do I need a better one?

I run CFS 3 with an old nVidia 6600 GT. It wasn't a bad item ... few years ago when I bought it :)

AFAIR there was no noticeable effect on frame rate when I upgraded from one screen to three. I get 18-25 FPS with settings 5 for aircraft, 1 for clouds and effects, 4 for others, and the usual tweaking (dual pass ...).

My WWII movie-theme playlist playing and pretend I'm Aces-High "Eddie". (I practice with radar and icons off)
