How to convert FSX paints to FS9?

Need help. I know to change the size of the 2400 textures to 1200, but don't know what to do with other files such as Propellers, floats, people and so forth. Does someone have a good "procedure for converting FSX aircraft paints to be used in FS9?

Thanks ahead of time

If the textures are 32 bits bmp, just change the size to 1024 bits (and not 1200). But most textures are DDS in FSX. You have to convert them to 32 bits bmp (you can use DXTBmp, freeware) and once converted to 32 bits bmp textures you´ll have to invert them (180 degrees, vertically).

I am assuming the aircraft has an FS9 version already, correct?

If so, them just reduce textures to 1024x1024 or less and flip it. make sure the texture name matches the existing FS9 version as well. You'll also probably need to do some work on the alpha texture since FSX has different properties for this and gets it's shine from a specular map instead/also.

BTW, if you download the latest version of DXTbmp from Martin's site you don't have to flip the terxtures. His site says the last version is 4.00.77, but if you download and install it says 4.00.96. I used this tool to convert the textures from .dds to DXT3 on my FS9 version of the SR-45. Didn't have to flip anything.

Cheers, Paul

I ran into this situation last night. Has anyone attempted to take one of the specular map files and import it into the alpha texture? Looks like it might work, but I didn't have any success.
