i have a friend from South Africa who is coming to North America to visit chatroom friends...seems im last on the list and he would like help finding out if there is a small commuter from Redding Ca,to Auburn Ca,or possibly Lincoln Ca.

when he leaves,he would like to go direct from Sacramento to New Zeland,with out having to transfer at SFO,or LAX..is there a place online i can find some of this information without having to go to individual airline websites?

some sort of database or something maybe?...

You could try http://www.kayak.com/ . It has a searchable database with different filters for things like number of stops, preferred departure/arrival time, etc. I use it to plan trips all the time.

Edit: It may not be all-inclusive (but it's pretty good). I think a few airlines are keeping their data out of 3rd party sites like Kayak, Travelocity, and such.
 
It's not just that some operators choose to keep out of the big sites. If they don't use the major's computer systems then they won't appear. WestJet, for example is not a "small" carrier, but until recently they maintained their own reservation system that didn't tie into Sabre which is possibly the largest unified reservation system, so nothing came up on Travelocity, etc.

An example that I'm familiar with is Air Choice One that serves ORD and STL with stops at smaller cities in the Illinois area that lost service from the 'majors'. Good skeds, good service but they can't afford the big bucks for Sabre at the fares they charge.

One way, Dave, is to look at websites for the various airports. If they are keen on promoting their business they will have info on operators (and hopefully links to them).

Sadly, with the modern trend to "hubs", secondary places like Sacramento (state capitols are often not at/near big centers of commerce) won't have direct international or intercontinental service nor the facilities to support the aircraft or airlines. The travelling public has shown they'd rather drive to a hub than pay the (often significantly) higher fare to fly out of a local airport. In some cases enterprising individuals have started things like bus shuttles to serve that issue.

From KSMF the closest he can get (via direct flights) to NZ is Hawaii and then connect, but it's likely that flights will be significantly cheaper out of SFO/LAX

thanks to both of you...i was thinking of going to the redding airport website and see whats there.and we just might put him on a train to oakland then he can take a bus or something to SFO...
