Wow, very nice detailing!


The Sea Vixen could easily be one of the sexiest planes in history, but that bloody awful asymmetric cockpit...

They did the same crap with planes like the later recon-Canberras.

Or that awful, offset nosewheel on the Trident.

Seriously, british aircraft industry, what the heck were you thinking?

Ho,ho... Isn't the Spitfire THE most beautiful propfighter in the world ?.. And couldn't it be argued that it is the same with the Hawker Hunter in the jetfighter department ?

The Vixen's look great ! Do they fly too or just static ?...

I'd say the same for the Lightning - right up until we mention the guns positioning on the F6.

The Sea Vixens are full AI - with all the usual animations, plus a few you wouldn't necessarily expect for AI.
Moving Pilot heads, 'Remove-before-flight' tags that move in the breeze.
You can even see the Observer's head in his 'coal-hole' - which also opens.
Folding wings, and a model with an opening radome.

What else could possibly be asked from AI?
John even provides his own test field and a traffic file in the package, so you can see them all in action immediately.

Outstanding!!! Coupled with John's Buccs and Hunters, the 60s RN FAA is reaching near complete proportions. What a treat!

As to the hubris regarding asymmetrical cockpits and gears - with a small amount of reading, the operational necessities and engineering constraints of the time can be easily understood. Chiefly, those were visibility on the carrier landing pattern, and maximising under-deck hold space. If these are indeed known, then it's just the nonsensical futility of debating aesthetics. Personally, I'm grateful every time a dev launches a model that takes us back to a time where bold and unique designs were sometimes needed to overcome the technology challenges of the day. For my part in the sim, I'll happily take the purposeful oddity of yesterday over the sterile vanilla perfection of today.

In any event - thanks Mr Young. I'll be liberally sprinkling these throughout the ACG airfields, where appropriate (esp in Lossiemouth).

Nope. Family originally comes from Brighton.
My nth great grandfather can be traced back to Marie Antoinette. In fact my nth great grandmother traced him back there a couple of times.....

Those are fantastic - thank you so much. Now all that's missing is a repaint for the SkySim Sea Vixen FAW.2 in 899 markings to fly with them. Can anyone be persuaded?

The first of the standard Skysim textures is the sharkmouthed 899 Sqn Sea Vixen - well it is in FS9 anyway, is that not the case in FSX?
 
Superb job ! They even show exhaust gas swirling about ! :applause:

Do have a problem with the scenery. I use FTX Scotland but excluded the 3 EG0A bgl's. Still the airfield is sunken below ground level... Anyone seeing that too ?

Yes, the sharktooth FAW.2 is there, but although it's from 899 the rest of the squadron don't have that marking, so it sticks out rather!
