HU: Milviz F-4J/S has launched!

Smoke Abatement

I think the Milviz forum is down, at least it was when I last checked so, I'll ask here.

I am interested in finding out if there is a smoke abatement switch on one of the consoles that when actuated, would tone down the exhaust smoke trail.
Also there are little white vapor trails coming from the wing tips, how can I make them vanish?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If you fly the S, there should be no smoke. The J, like the E, always had smoke unless it was in burner. To that end, put one engine in burner and the other at idle or just above. This is what most pilots did.

For the vortices, that's in the aircraft.cfg and I'm sure someone else can help.

Thank you.

Kat.

Vapor trail from wings

Is there a way to eliminate the vapor trails emanating from the wingtips?

Hi,

Those are vortices. You can get rid of them by editing your aircraft.cfg. Someone else will have to help you with that.

Thank you.

Kat.

Hey Steph,

Tom Stovall just published his updated VF-31 repaint for the F-4J a few days ago.

Check it out here, 3rd from top:

:encouragement:

Thanks for the reference Duckie, The original update for the VF-31 F-4J had the VY missing from the left side. (Old guy mistake) That has been corrected in the first download and explains the second download days ago. I couldn't find the original for some reason. Anyway if you find there is no VY on the left side just download again and all is well. Sorry for the inconvenience.

For those of you with no real life experience with F-4 Phantom II's, many if not most of the versions, especially the earlier ones, were quite smokey. Ours certainly were. :icon_eek:

I googled the question of removing the vortices and came across some info. I have not tested these myself, but the source seemed pretty credible. Try adding these lines to your aircraft.cfg (rather than deleting fx files and hoping nothing else is effected):

[effects]
l_wingtipvortice=False
r_wingtipvortice=False

Also potentially of interest:
vaportrail_l=True/False
vaportrail_r=True/False
contrail=True/False

I tried that 2nd entry and that seems to do the trick. Thanks! :encouragement:
