Huub's fault...

IIRC there were some ugly confrontations with MAAM, going back to FS2002 days.
Something to do with a conflict of interests or other angst!
Of course, I may be wrong but it has a ring of truth to it, and I was very grumpy about a lack of repaints, as I (just me, myself) preferred this aircraft to the MAAM version.
Nice paint indeed, now of it was wearing white/blue RAAF roundels it would be so much nicer...:jump:

It was more than "conflicts of interest", it was basically taking MAAM-SIM's model, tweaking some textures and claiming it as Roy's own work after he was asked to leave MAAM-SIM (and then claimed he invented MAAM-SIM, amongst other things!) I was involved in that and still have quite strong feelings.

That was, however, an entirely different model than this one - a lot earlier and a complete rebuild ago. This model has no relation at all to Jan's that I am aware of. It also has a VC, which that version didn't.

I'm wondering whether the repaint ban was on the previous version as well, which may well be why we can't find it... The model dev for the new version was/is a member here if I remember correctly, so maybe he can comment more?

Interested to see what people can come up with for this one, anyway... :)

Hurricane91

That's a great story LC. I enjoyed it very much, thanks for sharing.

you're welcome Hurricane....the thing about his landing behind his fathers house, the field was not, I repeat not very dang long, maybe 700 feet...his brother had his house at the end of the field so not a lot of room for error....My fathers place was just down a small hill from there...I was in the back yard one day when I heard this deep rumble....before I knew what was what this B-25 was headed down...I grabbed my bicycle and headed up the hill to see how bad the crash was....He was just shutting down the engines having pulled up alongside his fathers barn...I remember being very impressed especially as I had recently seen the movie "30 seconds over tokyo" and had read how difficult it was to take off and land on such a short field...about a month later he took off on an early Saturday morning....that got all the neighbors out of their houses real quick...We could see the dust but not the plane as it roared down the alfalfa field...then zoom it was up...making one heck of a racket... anyway....one of my fondest childhood memories...especially as I became friends with his sons and got to spend quite a bit of time around his planes.

I finally found it, down in the manuals:

Repaints
RCS Panels will not grant permission for any repaints of this package. The only repaints allowed, will be those done by RCS Panels team members. Any requests for particular liveries should be sent to RCS Panels at :- roy@roychaffin.com

oh well

It's nice that this gentleman put the time in to make the model, and then made it available. But, this is a little cheeky.

Cool thread.

Over the moon that someone is grasping the nettle to do some more paints for this very under-rated and overlooked freeware FSX B-25. Understand that doing paints for this bird is "involved" so any additions VERY much appreciated.

Funny, as it happens, over in the States this week for a few days and my son and I had a few minutes this morning to kill while my wife and daughter are off shopping and swing by Vero Beach airport KVRB where this last of its kind B-25 H is sitting in the sun following an air show this past weekend.

Later in the afternoon when I heard this roar of radials I ran out of our house to see her banking gracefully over the beach. What a rare treat and taste of the past.

Roy being a very decent sort I would have thought would not object to some nice repaints that encouraged the appreciation of others. That is just IMHO of course.

In the past I had some e-mail contact with Steve Wayne, who did the paintwork for the RCS B-25 and we briefly discussed this topic.

In my understanding RCS wanted to keep control over the repaints made, as they would like to offer the owners from real B-25s to release their own virtual B-25 to raise money. Similar as with MAAM, but in this case open for all owners from Mitchel bombers. I know they have rendered this service to at least one foundation which owns a B-25 Mitchell. ( http://www.b-25yellowrose.com/fltsim/default.htm )

So perhaps not that cheeky after all.....

Cheers,
Huub

Well, thanks for casting some light on the subject, but it's still your fault, though, lol. :)

well guys, I will not be uploading my paints.
Roy came with some restrictions that I just could not accept, so that's too bad.
I did send my textures to him however, so who knows....

In the mean time, I'll see if I can adapt them for the other B-25, would be shame to let that work go to waste

Ok, so it's not the RCS B-25, but the other one by Maam-sim. Also a very nice model (in need of a FSX update), and I thought that I might bring out these paints anyway. Real easy to adapt the paints. Both still need a few more tweaks, but this is what they will look like, more or less...

any comments?

Hi Jan,

How well does the MAAM-Sim B-25 work in FSX? I know that DX10 is a no-go, but I dont use that mode, so are there any other problems?

Really appreciate Roy's generous offering of this superb FSX Mitchell. Just needs one or two more USAF camo and alloy paints to really enjoy fully. Oh, well . .

it works fine, especially with the upgrades you'll find on their site.
The only problem is the prop that disappears behind the clouds, but if you make it a bit more transparant, that becomes hardly noticeable. Strangely enough, the RCS version has the same problem, even though that is marketed as a FSX aircraft.

Apologies for the fact that it's not a Jan Kees repaint, seeing as it's his thread, but I took a load of shots of BT in FSX+Accel a while ago to show someone the limitations so I'll post a few here.

It actually works pretty well, with the patches in place. I certainly keep her installed, although I don't tend to fly the model very often.
