I am back in action

Progress report:

I have done sets (for F6F-5s, TBFs and SB2Cs) for the central Philippines and I am now working on air attacks in the Manila area (13 SEP 44). I want to use Kdriver's Manila scenery, but each time I install it in my game, the Mission Builder "fails to initialize." :banghead: I have tried it in several installs with the same result. Sorry, I will probably use my own layout for the city facilities and harbor.

Hi Greg,

I suggest having a separate Mission Builder install with only the aircraft and ships you are using in your missions, as well as a cut down number of DPs in the OBJECTS_DP folder. DPs for weapons and objects not in use can be removed.
Mission Builder is a temperamental beast.

Cheers,
Kevin

Yes Kevin, she is that. I have quite a few objects in the folder... I had thought to go through them and drop the ones I don't need. My only problem is in choosing which ones to eliminate, what with your, UT's and MR's scenery packs loaded. I think what you are suggesting is work those mission in a separate install without the other packs and their objectsdp requirements, just to get the missions done. Then I can place them into the campaign install. Do you think that will work?

Cheers
Greg

Greg, yes that should work. I have about 1800 DPs in both my PTO and ETO MB installs and the program works OK. The main installations have double that number and there is no hope of MB working from them.

Getting rid of the weapon DPs saves a lot of space. MR/LW's objects are used extensively in the Philippines. I used UT's fuel storage tanks and boat ramp for Manila. You will need quite a few of the Pearl Harbor objects as well.

If you go through the Manila layouts, you will see which objects you need.

Good luck and save your work often!

I got it working after deleting about 100 unused objects. And I do save often.
I finished my fighter sweep over Manila , and next the harbor and airbase raid missions are in line. Mid - late September 1944 is where we're located now. :running:

Currently I am building several missions over Formosa (Taiwan), which I suspect are diversionary attacks to draw Japanese attention away from the Philippines. I think this is going to be two campaigns, one prior to mid 1944 and the other till the end of the war.

WHEW! I finally finished the three (F6F, SB2C and TBF) missions to cover the raid on Taikao, Formosa airstrip: I've been working on these off and on for several weeks and finally took the time to open MB and finish up the last one.

"summary_string"=OTTOWA, this morning your assignment is to lead in VT-15's bombers as part of the main strike group's attack on the Japanese airbase, located 5 1/2 miles SSE of the southwest coastal port of Taikao. You and the other flights are to utilize your bombs, rockets and gunfire to eliminate the enemy's fuel and munitions storage facilities and any other targets of opportunity you can spot, such as parked aircraft. VF-15 will go in 2 minutes ahead of you and neutralize as much of the FLAK as possible, then stand by to engage any Japanese fighters that show up. Launch at 0630 hours and, climbing to 12,000 feet, fly out 100 miles on a 260-degree vector to RP-ORION. From ORION, your flight is to proceed another 12 miles to the target airstrip. Upon conclusion of your strike, regroup at RP-IO and return to base on a 095-degree heading.

"objective_string"=TG-38.3 has, over the past few days, inflicted severe damage to Japanese airfields and support facilities throughout the Philippines. Their mission now is to interdict and disrupt enemy shipping and airbases on the island of Formosa. This is done possibly to draw the Japanese Command's attention and reserves away from the Philippines and toward Formosa. Among the targets hit were the Japanese airbases at Kagi, Taikao and the port, and support facilities of Taikao City, as well as enemy shipping in the area.

"intelligence_string"=Ours is an attack in coordination with that of the USS Lexington II's CAG's strike on the harbor and port facilities of the city, Taikao. The airfield is defended by various AA positions and it's own aircraft. Our fighters will engage and destroy them and as many of the field's FLAK positions as possible, ahead of our SG's main attack, and then perform CAP duties to cover our bombers, in the event additional enemy fighters try to take off or interceptors appear from other bases. The weather conditions look good; with moderate cloud cover, visibility 8-10 miles and winds out of the south, from 200 degrees at 10-15 knots. Stay alert! There still remain significant Japanese air assets here on the island and the enemy may try to put up some opposition.

I definitely will speed up my work! :running: :jump:
