I am so stupid

Unfortunatly I don't give up easy and reinstalled FS9. So far it's running great.I figured I'd just install a plain vanilla FS( ,leave it go for about a month then start adding stuff.
Well when I had the first problem (before the last install) with it stopping at 77% someone at Avsim(not blameing them) said they got around it by deleting the scenery txt and config file, that they would rebuild.
Well even with the reinstall I found they don't (yes I have show hidded files and folders) So far no problem but if I do ever have a scenery problem I have no scenery txt.or config file in my application files folder.
Any way to get them back?I would have thought they would be there with the reinstall ,but no of course not.
I must be the biggest glutton for punishment alive and the dumbest. But I thought (a rare thing for me) if they rebuild ,what have I got to loose?
Why do I do these things to myself?

Your okay, just run the program, shut it down and run it again. The missing files will be back.

You're not stupid... FS is a learning experience. I remember when I went through similar issues and just wanted to toss the PC out the window. I have learned alot since the early days of CFS and FS98... You'll get things together, just keep plugging away and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

not there

I went to users/my name(stupid) application data/microsoft/fs9 , and their not there after running fs9 a bunch of times. Whats going on?

I think that scenery.cfg does not regenerates, but if i remember correctly thre should be default scenery.cfg in one of fs install disks and fs9.cfg regenerates automaticly so no worries about it.

found two

On disk one I found two scenery config file, one was 3 mb the other 4 mb.I compared them side by side and could see no difference so I put the 4 mb into fs9 application files roaming etc. I could not find the scenery txt. file in any of the 4 disks,do I need it and if I do does anyone know where it's at?

I put Roosevelt field in

I put Roosevelt field in ,ran the sim it shows in the sim but not in the scenery config. Any reason why ?Is the scenery config not going to work because I pasted it in?

why was it there before?

The scenery config was with the CFS config when I deleted it in the first place. I Googled it and it said it's under C: users/my name/Roaming/Microsoft/FS9. Thats where it was when I deleted it ,so now I'am really confused.

H,

this is the one I told you to delete in the previous thread, it seems to be a duplicate and the sim can live without it, sometimes regenerating it, randomly? The one inyour main FS9 folder is most certainly required, if you've lost that one, look for one in the same place called 'scenery.oldcfg' (this is waht the sim creates when you add scenery, there will be a 'new' also, until you run the sim again and it is used to create your 'scenery.cfg' proper (the reason you restart FS after adding new scenery)). You can copy and paste this old one (or 'new' preferably if it's there), rename as scenery.cfg replacing the old. You may loose some added scenery, but it's easy to add it again.

wow I'am confused

I looked in every file in the FS9 root file and could find no scenery cfg file ,yet so far the sim is running perfectly(I'll regret saying that)Where is the scenery config file located?

Hi Hurricane,

Maybe this file list could be of help - if not for now , certainly for future references.
The scenery.cfg is usually in the main FS9 folder and can be found on Disk 3.

How about just doing a file search in the FS folder ??
if the sim runs it has to be there. But depending on where you installed, by now I am sure you know not to install in the default location, W7 and it's built in file administration sometimes may hide files from casual browsing....but they should show up when using the search function.

I am a bit weary of advising you to play with the UAC settings for W7, because they are designed to keep you from messing up the overall OS, and by your own admission you are not a PC expert.

Cheers
Stefan

I don't know if I can help here because you're running Windows 7 right? I don't know my way around that yet but great to have you back so soon!:applause:

If and when you get your scenery.cfg file back, and want to purge FS9 again because of some little glitch you run into, either because the sim won't load completely or there's a specific scenery problem, rather than deleting those files (fs9.cfg/scenery.cfg), drag them into a separate folder for safe keeping. Then restart FS9 and both files will regenerate. Doing this is especially helpful in FS9 because if you have a throttle and joystick and have mapped a lot of functions to the buttons and switches, regenerating the FS9.cfg file will strip all that and without a backup, you'll have to start all over again. With a backup, you can simply cut and paste. FSX corrected that little problem by moving those maps to a separate file.

msut be in there

FS9 wouldn't run as good as it does if the scenery config wasn't there, right?I did a file search of each file in the root file but couldn't find anything that said scenery config.
I also found two what was called scenery configs on disk one. They are a list of scenery areas, guess I don't know what I'am looking for as couldn't find anything on disk 3 that said scenery config.
Aeromed , I guess I'am stubborn and don't give up easy, which is why I'am back so soon ,but I'am sure I'll quit a bunch more times.
Right now as long as fs9 is running ok I'am not gonna worry about where the config file is Falcon if I do have a scenery problem deleteing the FS9 config won't fix it?Thats why I wanted to find the scenery config.
