Rene and I thought you might be interested in our rework of the old but still good Zuyax Spitfire Mk.IXc... Upgrades include a new 4.00 AvHistory flight model adapted to the Mk.IX airframe, with 5 different engines modelled, namely the Merlin 61, 63, 66, 66 (+25lbs boost) and 70, new skins, reworked cockpit externals and the cockpit from the SJ Mk.VIII. Among other things.

The first package, the early UK-based F.MkIXc (Spifire Mk.IXA) coming soon... 8 RAF, RCAF and RAAF aircraft.

The Spitfire MkIX was introduced in the early summer of 1942, and scored its first kill in the hands of Flt Lt Donald Kingaby of No.64 Squadron on 30th July 1942 over Boulogne in Northern France - an FW190, precisely the aircraft the MkIX had been developed to counter.

The MkIX went on to become the backbone of RAF Fighter Command, and was supplied both during and after the War to numerous countries. The new engine used a two-stage supercharger to increase power especially at higher altitudes; where the Spitfire MkVs Merlin 45 would produce only 750 hp at 30,000 feet, the new Merlin 61 produced 1020. This engine was developed further into a number of specialised versions with improved performance at all levels.

Aircraft fitted with the Merlin Mk.61 or 63 were widely referred to within the RAF as the Spitfire Mk.IXA. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the armament fit and served only to distinguish it from the later LF.MkIX, or Spitfire Mk.IXB.

Bear in mind that the vast majority of Spitfires were not assigned to individual pilots and were therefore used as needed according to availability. This means that very few aircraft bore any personal markings or artwork of any sort, and those few which did tended to be those used by flight leaders or above. The typical working Spitfire did not carry personalised artwork.

The first pack of 8 F.MkIXs is up. These are early production aircraft with Merlin 61 or 63 engines, based in Great Britain in 1942-43.
 
Great news! The Mk.IX seems to have been pretty underrepresented to date, glad to see it getting some focused attention! On the downside, the link appears to be broken.

Edit: Sometimes even the dull knife is useful. I can download if I use internet explorer. Chrome was a no-go.
 
Download looks active (33 hits listed), but just causes an error when I try to use it.

The hit count is steadily rising (now 76), but the download is still broken, so no one is actually getting the package.
 
We'll have a HF IX too. Or a few - in fact I don't even know.

My participation in this project was a case of luck and coincidence, I was doing some touch-up work just for myself and told Nigel about it, in return he revealed that he was in the process of painting the entire thing from the ground up. It escalated rather quickly and the results are now rolling out. Basically everything I've done for the Mk IX during the last ten years is included as well as some details made exclusively for these releases.

The differences between the F, LF and HF versions are really quite subtle but so they were in real life - the climb difference, for example, between the LF and HF being a whopping 20 seconds to 30.000 feet as tested at Boscombe Down in 1943. The engine power and performance data figures seen in the aircraft descriptions are the actual values the aircraft will do, all flight tested by yours truly.

Actually, this wasn't true - I downloaded the file an hour before that was posted - and it opens just fine with Windows .zip facility.

Anyway, I noticed that this new file and several others in the library say that they are updates to Zuyax's original creations (which I think might have been updates of stock aircraft). BUT, I can't find his original files in the library - only updates for the MkIXc, MkXIVc and MkVb. Are the original files by Zuyax available to download anywhere, please ?

Hey guys,

Hairyspin tipped me off to this. I just downloaded the Spitfire package with no issues, and it unzips fine. I'll be gone for a few hours at the dentist, but I will check in later this evening. (Yes, I know, insert the "Is it safe?" jokes here...)

Please post if you are still having issues with downloading this.
