I have some Pedestal / Mezzagosto questions for you...

To all,

While I wait for EC_ILO to finish beta testing the RAAF campaign and for the download section to be finalized, I'm going to take Pedestal / Mezzagosto through the wringer, using correct names for the ships as well.

So, here's what I'm looking for....

I need Royal Navy Battleships that can represent the Rodney and Nelson!

I'm going to use Collin's RN tanker so that she looks more like the Ohio.

I'll use the Illustrious, Ark Royal, and Furious carriers to represent the Furious, Eagle, Victorious, and Indomitable.

The Kenya, Manchester, Norfolk, and Suffolk. along with the stock US Cruiser will be used to represent all of the cruisers involved with this campaign.

For destroyers, besides US stock, the Jervis, and Kelly, what else do you recommend?

Beyond the Ohio, I was going to use the Virtual Navy freighters in addition to the stock options.

This final update will incorporate Bismarck's Dewoitine D-520, the Beaufighters, and Bruno's new Fulmar.

And one question...

What ships were in Force Z, and which were in Force X?

What ships were in Force Z, and which were in Force X?

Rami, Usio has both Rodney(1940) and Nelson(1941).

There is a VN Force Z pack with Repulse and Prince of Wales. The escort destroyers for Force Z were the Electra, Express, Vampire and Tenedos. The assigned carrier was HMS Indomitable.

I have not at this moment the info you need about Force X.

Please have a bit of patience about DoA: I think in 2-3 days should be totally tested.

EC_ILO,

There is no rush on DoA! The whole point is to get it done right. I'm also holding off on uploading it until the download section gets straightened out.

The P-39 Papua New Guinea campaign that follows it is also finished.

And thanks, I picked up the Rodney and Nelson.

Hallo Rami,

there is a nice HMS Rodney and HMS Nelson at Usios page.
Also the HMS Eagle and two new british destroyers.
HMS Kenya and HMS Manchester were made by Collin's.

Best wishes

Klaus

Just me being a PITA 'rivet counter' but the axis forces that attacked the convoy were Italian & German forces based in Italy, Sicily & Sardinia. As far as I am aware, Vichy French units were based in North Africa & the Levant which leads me to the conclusion that ; even as much as I love Bismarck's D-520, they were very unlikely to have taken any part in the campaign. Bismarck's SM-84 would fit in nicely however.

Oldwheat,

I just thought it would be fun. Since you are passing by Gibraltar on the 10th and are close to the Moroccan and Algerian coastlines, I thought it would be fun and / or historically plausible to be attacked by Vichy French forces in the area, including a flight of Dewoitine D-520s and Morane-Saulnier Ms-406 fighters.

Rami,

I did some UK repaints of Wolfis Hog Islander, Prinz Heinrich, the Groundcrew tanker, Chris N's Liberty ship etc. & gave them a Blue Devil style dp & armament.

If you want a comprehensive read of the op planning, together with some significant facts regarding background, supporting missions I'd read through ...

http://www.usnwc.edu/getattachment/...-Convoy-Operation-to-Malta,-10-15-August-1942

It a long tough read, but well worth it for the background insights ...

Hi Rami,

I think the VN Illustrious would be the best substitute for both the Victorious and Indomitable as they were a similar class of carrier. The Ark Royal was an earlier design.

BTW I have returned to DoA testing and should also be finished in a few days.

Rami,

No need to find a replacement for HMS Eagle; Usio has a beautiful model of Eagle. I'm not sure of your time frame, but Collin is making HMS Sheffield, which is an important part of force H. Usio has recently released the destroyers lively and Lance. I'm not sure about Lively, but Lance was part of the destroyer screen for several convoys to Malta.

A picture...

Here is the Pedestal convoy after passage through the Strait of Gibraltar.

Lookin' Good Rami, I notice a few vessels without wakes, if U identify, I can help with the DPs if the original authors wouldn't mind.:medals:

I noted the same. Probably just needs an effects line or two added to the DP file.

If I was an Axis pilot, I don't think that I would like to fly into the combined AA fire of that convoy, even if it was early in the war and AA technique hadn't yet developped into the near impenatrable walls of the late war fleets.

Hey guys,

1) The reason that some of the ships have wakes is back when I had my "lead-sled" Compaq with a 128MB video card, I deleted many of the wakes and effects on my ships, and have just been lazy in putting them back.

2) I found a document that tells me the names of ships in each force so I know what ships to put in and take out when circumstances allow.

Hey all,

For the large-scale air attacks on the Pedestal convoy, I'm going to follow the 50% rule. Whatever the amounts of planes attacking I'll cut in half for simulation. An example is a raid on the 11th, there were thirty Ju-88s and six He-111s attacking the Pedestal convoy. 30 + 6 = 36 / 2 = 18

I may throw in a small wing of Bf-109s (four or six) to provide escort.

I won't be simulating the ship attacks other than the sinking of the HMS Eagle by the U-73. That just makes things too complicated.
