I messed up again

Ditto. For each new addon scenery folder there must be only one each texture and scenery subfolders. You might be 99% there.

guys it worked!

How can I say thankyou enough. It worked and is 100% better, most all the building are now textured. There are a very few that are gray and if you take off from FLRC Mauports Rway 29 and fly straight ahead there are a few buildings that have red roofs and are all white, with no other texture also the town at about 9:00 from that one has a big white square that I can't figure out what it is.
But don't get me wrong ,I'am just making a few observations not complaining ,it so nice to see towns instead of white houses all around. You guys are absolutley the very best and I just can't thank you enough.
And thankyou Andy for showing my favorite scene from my second favorite movie, I didn't realise that today was the anniversary of Market Garden( my favorite movie is The Battle of Britian)
Now will someone tell me the rightway to install this scenery if I ever have to do it again?:jump:

Andy, I hope you enjoyed 'A Bridge Too Far', but I would have thought that 'The Longest Day' might have been more appropriate. Arnhem is a couple of hundred miles north-east of the Normandy beaches and the action there took place 4-5 months after D-Day!

Both good films though!

Good point but:

1) It's the anniversary of Market-Garden
2) I love A Bridge Too Far
3) I don't have The Longest Day :icon_lol:

Hurricane, the film Battle of Britain is responsible for my love of aviation. When I was really young I used to spend my summer's with an old school friend of my mothers; we lived in South London, close to London Bridge, but Sheila had moved to Cambridgeshire when she married, not too far from Duxford - so, when I was 6 or 7, I spent a summer with the skies above me full of the sounds of Merlin engines, as they filmed all the flying sequences. And some of the sequences of the bombing in London were filmed at St Katherines Dock, which was just the other side of the Thames - that was of especial interest too, as my grandfather was a baker by day & a volunteer fireman (on the fireboats) by night, so those scenes always remind me of him.

Brief ToDo

Hurricane3,
You said: 'Now will someone tell me the rightway to install this scenery if I ever have to do it again?'. Well I can give you a couple of pointers to get you on your way to being able to extract files correctly. It is up to the installer (YOU and ME) to LEARN to handle the zip files contents and to learn what to do depending on what is 'given' to you in zip file (ie: 'patch' or 'no path' or 'folder-inside-another-folder', etc). One must decipher it. And one must remember what the aim is: to extract compressed files (to folders). I made a few pics showing parts, or stages, in zip file operations. Hope it helps. I can follow up with verbal (text) explaination of what you might not 'grasp'. Let me know. Cheers.

yes all good films

Their all good films but Battle of Britian will always be my favorite with A Bridge to Far a close second. I have the Longests Day as well as Saving Privite Ryan ,two copies of each of all my favorites, one the standard edition and one of the Special Edition, as well as about a hundered other DVD's and still have VHS'S of all my favorate war movies, most are still in the cellophane ,one day I'll start watching them.
Oh I mentioned about the big white square in the town in the scenery, now I took another flight and darned if I could find it again. I found the buildings with red roofs and no detail on the sides but there arent that many and they sure don't bother me.It might have been because the first time I was flying with no backround programs shut down.I usually fly from MSCONFIG to shut down backround programs or else I start loseing textures, so maybe that had something to do with it. Last two flights when I couldn't find the white square I was flying from MSCONFIG and next time I flew from my backup external HD ,since it's a different drive it's not affected by backround programs.I know I shouldn't fly from it but I doubt I'll use it for back up anyway.
This computer is 10 years old and top of the line when I got it. Most of the internals have been replaced at least once maybe more ,but since I hate to lose all that eye candy ,when I fly it's more like a slide show, but until I can afford a new puter I have to live with it.
Enough for now ,thank you all again ,your the best.

Napamule you lost me

You lost me because nothing looks like whats on my computer. I always just extracted the scenery file to my documents then put the scenery file to Addon Scenery and activated it as usual. For instance I just installed Old Warden like this with no problems. I have made a folder and put the scenery and texture folders in side it when there was no scenery folder after I extracted the contents to my documents, but because of the confusing readme on the Utah beach scenery I got confused and didn't do this. Also, how was I to know that there was another texture file inside the other texture file and what to do with it?
From now on I'am sticking to simple scenery that I can understand the readme and requires no other addons to work.
Thankyou for all the pictures but I have to do things as simple as I can. If I had it to do over I'd have never tried to install the Utah Beach scenery at all.
So thanks again but now I gotta get some rest ,another day spent in front of this infernal machine, whew

You got it Chuck. I was thinking a picture is worth a thousand words. I just prefer extracting them as Compressed (Zip) Folders, just what I'm used to. Happy days again Hurricane, you'll be cruising through FS in no time.

Lost You

Hurrican3,
Well, I ASSUMED you saved the zip to a folder and then dbl-clicked it to open with WinZip (or 7Zip). In other words, I use 'Explorer' (ie: dbl-click 'My Computer' icon which is on my desktop) to browse to zip file. I save downloads to a folder ('FS9 Zips 2011', and 'FSX Zips 2011') and when ready to install I browse to those folders, and dbl-click, the zip file itself. If you have WinZip or 7Zip it wil then (auto) open the zip file and display the contents. (As the pic shows for texture, it had a folder 'built in' (texture) so you could expect extract process to MAKE a FOLDER called 'texture'. You already know the structure of folders for aircraft (Main folder (cfg and air), model, panel, sound and texture folders). Alternative is to save extracted files to a 'Temp' folder and copy (or move) the folders after they are 'right'. Same for scenery folders/files. Do it yourself and don't just assume the author did it right.

There IS a 'learning curve' when learning how to use WinZip or 7Zip, but it's a '25 mph curve' and not a '110 mph curve' like when trying to learn Photo Shop or GMax, etc. The variable (that causes most install 'problems') is in how the author put together the folders/files (ie: 'path'). That is what you learn to unravel. The extraction is mostly automatic. You just point to a folder and that's it. But I realize that there are 3 ways to do the same thing in Windows so I understand. You go with what you know and I don't blame you. I went to YouTube to look at tutorials about unpacking zip files and they all STINK (junk demos!) so I can't recommend ANY for you to watch. I would make you a video, but I can't do anything much since the crash at Reno. So tragic. It's just so sad and very depressing. Our local air show is Sept 23-25 and I do plan to attend. It's a tradition.

Edit: Oh, and after install of Utah scenery I flew around and was getting all of 8 fps most of the time (occassionally from 10-18 fps) so you are perhaps better off without THAT scenery anyway? I think so.

This time I understand

I actually understood what you were talking about ,Napamule so at least something got through my thick head. I'll continue to install scenery as long as it's simple and I understand the read me. If I'am not clear on it then I'am not installing it. Also kinda glad I'am not the only one who gets low frame rate when flying over the Utah Beach scenery ,it's more than I can handle to try to uninstall all those files because of the dumbo head why I installed it ,but I doubt I;lll be flying much over that scenery, unless I feel like watching a slide show.
Thankyou for and your time and help as well as all the others. I do things pretty much as Aeromed, said and doing what I'am used too. I've been extracting zip files with Winzip for years ,have tons of scenery and over 400 planes which I;ll probley never fly, which is why it takes about 10 minutes to boot FS9 up, gotta load all those textures
Well I hope to take the day off from this darn computer and forget about flight sims for a while.
Thanks again ,have a good one
