Hello People! I am Hannah. I have a homework that I need to submit on Thursday. I need to interview people that have been to war to defend our country. (even if you did not go to war, as long as you are a member of our troops). You can answer these questions even after Thursday. I have been telling my class about you, guys. This is a Fourth Grader Class, My teacher will allow me to log on and check your answers. Now I can really show and tell you to my class. I am always proud to be a member of this Forum. Thank you, Mr. Ron and Staff.

I have 7 questions:

Which branch of the Armed Forces are you in? I was in the Army

Why did you join the army? When I was a little boy I wanted to be a paratrooper, and I always admired my uncles and my dad who had been in the Army.

Were you in any wars? I took part in Grenada, Somalia, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. Grenada, Bosnia, and Somalia were not considered real wars, but there were lots of people hurt in both and I got shot at in them, so to me they were wars. I was never shot at in Afghanistan, although that is considered a real war.

Were you wounded? Fortunately I was never wounded, although at different times I broke my nose, broke my arm, broke some teeth, was knocked out and given a slight concussion, hyper-extended my knee (I limp a little now), laid open my leg in some razor wire one night and needed stitches (not paying attention) and really, really, really hurt my back (and it still hurts).

How long were you enlisted? I was actually a commissioned officer rather than an enlisted man. The President of the United States (Ronald Reagan) submitted my commission after I met certain qualifications and was recommended by the Army. This was approved by the Congress. I held that commission for almost 25 years.

What was your scariest moment? I collided with another paratrooper immediately after exiting an airplane in the middle of the night on a training jump. He had exited the opposite door, we hit each other really hard before our parachutes were fully open. We were entangled for just a second or so, then broke free of one another and our parachutes opened up fully and we both made normal landings. It didn't scare me until I got to the ground and thought about it, and then I almost peed in my pants.

What was your proudest moment? In January 2002 I took a bunch of boxes of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies with me outside Khandahar, Afghanistan and gave the cookies to some Afghan kids. You should have seen their faces when they ate them. They had never ever had anything chocolate .

Were you in any wars? Supported Panama and first Gulf War From Tinker AFB.

Hannah

You are such an amazing young lady. Your maturity and poise are traits that many on this site admire in you. You are truly a testament to the great parenting/teaching that your mother is giving you. You will grow up to be one amazing person. Good luck on your assignment.

I was not in the military, so I can not help you with your assignment. Sorry.

To those who have answered Hannah's questions...'

Thank you all for the many years of service, dedication and commitment you have all shown in serving your country (which ever one it happens to be). Men and women who stand at the ready to defend their home land, their fellow citizens are to be commended for what they do. I am proud to know each and every one of you...if only through this forum....and would love to meet each and everyone of you face to face so I could shake your hands and thank you in person. God bless you all!
