I want a new PC for extreme FSX. Full settings

http://www.extreme-pc.ca/showproduct.asp?productid=370092&menu1id=10&menu2id=140&menu3id=167

Take the specs from that.

I personally went to London Drugs, bought the bottom basement Quad core they had, no viddy, no sound, just bones, Bought 500ghz power, Nvidia 9800gt, and Extreme Gaming audio, and dual booted XP on to it, and now have a rockin system for under $1000. I average 40-50fps full graphics everything cranked.

In FS9 you mean....

No way you're running something like that in X with maxed settings....not even the Core i7 guys overclocked can do that...

I'm puzzled about the i7. Currently I have a non-OCed quad 6600 (2.4 GHz). I've heard that OCing to 3.x GHz will put me in the sweet spot. Anyone want to suggest an equivalent spot for the i7s?

I just looked up "i7 920" on Newegg. Price is about what I paid for a duo 6600 two and a half years ago. Then I noticed their systems, HP and Gateway. Would be nice not to build my own and have a warranty this time!

Why am I not keen to overclock? Here are my two sissy reasons:
(a) I don't need more trial and error in my life
(b) the next time I get/build a new rig, my wife will use the one I have now; I don't her to start getting random errors down the line because I rode the chip too hard while I had it

I duly respect everyone's response on my seeking info. And, I kinda figured mixed results depending on who you talk to. I'll be honest everyone. I'm confused. Too many variables for me to contend with.

I don't want to play trial & error. I figured it'd be a simple question. Which is the reason I haven't upgraded yet. Gosh dangit. :kilroy:

Tim I agree on this.

The PC has not been made yet that runs FSX with everything full tilt without an issue or two. But if you build your system well you will enjoy your flights with eye candy turned way up.

Today if I were buying a computer and had the money to do what I want. I would choose the i7Core only because it is the newest thing out there besides the i5. DDR3 memory is getting cheaper and it is superior to DDR2 though only marginally so right now. I also recommend the new AMD Dragon platform for FSX with the 955 or 965 as they handle FSX very well, but will not compete with the Intel i7Core CPUs at the same level.

Building one is your best option. Decide what you want to spend, what other games or apps do you use, and then you can get a solid answers

There is nothing wrong with the Q6600 for FSX. It is still a great CPU and yes it does better being OC'd. Most of the motherboards and CPUs are built for OCing not so with most videocards because they usually come OC's about as far as they are going to go...though some allow marginal OC

There are plenty of guides to help you do it right and I am not saying you never will have a quirk happen but it is fairly rare these days when done correctly. I might add I have guides for any kind of OCing you would like to do with almost any motherboard.

Well, I guess when I said $3k, I was being unrealistic due to the way things are/aren't these days.

I want the MB to have as many slots as possible. And have the capacity for lots of connected hard drives (usb) I've got the Asus P4C800E mb now and have gotten to like all I can have connected or plugged in.

I do want Intel Based.

As far as software goes;

Adobe PS and occasionally some music editing. Aside from those, AV, firewall, malware, email and everyday other programs

man , overclock from 2.X to 3.X DO help,
and u don`t have to try too much, for my instance:
OC 2.3 to 2.8 ,it works (succeed to run FSX full screen 10 minutes),
OC to 3, it works,
then OC to 3.2, it works,
OC to 3.4 , it just can`t boot OS at all,
ok,back to 3.3, succed to boot windows , but FSX lockup in 5minutes.
back to 3.25, it always works, with FPS 2X improve to 3X

if u run a temp monitor software to check CPU and video card temp. it would be even safer to choose a better OC rate.

I'm curious if this power supply will work for my new build? Mainly because I recently bought one.
