Icarusgold Gladiator preview

do you have pics about it ian?

Unfortunately not. The book (which I don't have, it was my father's - he may still have it) is period and, umm, "well read" - for which you should read "falling to pieces".

I'll see whether he still has it. We have to recover a small snuffly rodent from them at some point.

Edit: I've just spoken to my mother who confirms that a) it's falling to pieces in her hands and b) it does have a small number of photographs. I'll pick that up when we get the hamster.

from the virtual cockpit you can open the canopy and pilot's exit

I remember reading years ago (possibly in a book about Faith, Hope and Charity) that the fuselage guns could be unjammed from the cockpit by er.. hitting them with a hammer! Are they going to be modelled or are they in the side consoles?

Faith, Hope and Charity it is seagladiator, it will be added later, actually includes mkI - II and ski version.

Beautiful work Icarus! Glad to see there is room for these sort of models as well in FSX! The VC and especially the chair look stunning!

Apparently we're going over to my parents next Saturday (15th) for my birthday - I'll pick up the FH&C book when I get there - along with the Luftwaffe one which is interesting, as it's not a side you normally read books written by.

They were also quite heavily modified by their crews - Hurricane props being one of the biggest changes, if I remember correctly from the book.

Are you sure? The Merlin turned in the opposit direction to the Bristol radials.

Best wishes

interesting ian...i will look at it. thanks huub we are just "training" with propeller...in the next month we'll start also with early jets.

Icarus, please keep training for a long time as most of my favourite aircrafts have a propeller :d.

About Faith, Hope and Charity; as far as I can make out they started life as a "normal" Gladiator, but due to the lack of spare parts some changes had to be made.

Although the Sea Gladiator should be fitted with a three-bladed propeller, there is a picture showing the N5531 an the N5519 with a two bladed propeller in "Osprey's Aircrafts from the Aces No44 Gloster Gladiator" . (For those who have it see page 43), There is also a picture from the N5520 with a three-bladed Hamilton propeller, which was taken form a Blenheim. Which is more logical as both aircrafts were powered by Mercury engines

The Mercury VIS engine of the N5520 (Faith) was replace by a Blenheim engine (Mercury VIII) as well. As the first part of the exhaust system is an integral part of both the engine and the cowling, it is most likely the cowling on this particular aircraft was changed as well.

As said, I'm really looking forward to this model as it is a good representative of an aircraft from my favourite period.

Huub
