If only I had 30 grand to spare

Found this property listed on Craigslist. Just under a half acre, a little under 900 square foot, 2 bedroom bungalow. Needs work. But....it is situated on or real close to the 221 acre Holidays Lake and the 7 acre Big Bass Lake. Deb said that if we owned that, she would never see me...cause I would be fishing all day, every day.

Oh man, I'd love to have that place too. I wonder if they'd take a 66 GTO in trade? Nawwww, too much fun with the GTO. But if I had another 15 grand stashed away I'd buy it. I'd even invite ya over OBIO. :d

Sounds nice, but too small for me. I'd need at least 3 more acres to fence up for the horses.

Yikes.

We live in Massachusetts only because my wife insists on raising our kids here. Yes, being a history teacher I appreciate the local significance, landmarks, and influence on our nation, and use it to good effect, but the very high cost of living is much too high for my taste, tolerance, and wallet.

A house like that in this state, especially near Boston, would be at a minimum, 80-95K if it was just the house. Considering it rests on almost half an acre and land is at a premium, the total value would likely be upward of 150K. My house is over 320K, and if I had my way we'd move tomorrow back to Western New York where I could get a house as big as I live in now for about or less than half of it!

This is a comparable-sized lot in Massachusetts, though the house is about 1,500 square feet...

Deb and I love watching the home and garden channels. One show we watched was showing New York apartments. And there was a 900ish square foot, 2 bedroom apartment that was listed at 1.5 MILLION dollars! And it wasn't that much nicer than our 900 square foot, 2 bedroom place that we rent for $490 a month...and that includes a heated and air conditioned one car garage, laundry area, full central air, new energy efficient windows and appliances, the use of a 10 by 25 foot storage shed and access to nearly 15 acres of land and exclusive use of a 3 acre pond that is nicely stocked with Blue Gill and Large Mouth Bass. Would love to see what this place would rent for in the Big Apple.

$30k!!!!!!...Im moving to the States! Even if you convert it to NZ dollars its a bargin...something like this near a lake in NZ would be more like $300k NZ. My own house cost over $400k NZ which is about the average price for a 3 bedroom house in NZ.
