IL-2: Birds of Prey Demo for Xbox 360

I just downloaded and played the demo, and it looks and feels pretty good. They made a nice balance between arcade and simulation, but there just seemed to be something lacking. Graphics are well done, the scenery reminds me somewhat of Rise of Flight. Clouds and smoke effects are pretty weak in my opinion, but the smoke trails from the machine guns are really good (again reminiscent of Rise of Flight).

All I got to fly was the Spitfire, but the modeling looked really good. The aircraft's skin looked realistic in the way it reflected the sunlight, as did the prop-spinner. The AI could be improved, but again this is only a demo. I'll probably end up purchasing, but I think having an actual joystick would have added to the realism and control. Maybe I'll get this (http://www.flightstore.co.uk/prod/SAIAVTX/Shop/comingSoon/).

Combat sims in general can fall into the trap of being the same-old same-old with updated graphics in my opinion. I see this as a victim of that problem. There wasn't anything that really set it apart from my old "Secret Weapons Over Normandy" game for the original Xbox other than the graphics.

It's looking okay as of now, I think a strong multiplayer would make this game a must-buy for me. I give it a 7 out of 10.:ernae:

I tried it too and over all I liked what I saw. Its no CFS2 and no IL2 '46, but for the Xbox it will be a good strike. I liked how they modeled the handling qualities of the Spitfire and Mustang. The Spitfire being the lighter to fly of the two, but the Mustang having more capabilities.

BTW, they took some creative liberties with the Spitfire. To my knowledge only 170 Mk.IIb Spitfires were built. The Mk.IIb having four .303 machine guns and two 20mm cannons. :kilroy:

make sense though. The RAF found that having eight .303 machines couldn't knock the bombers down to easy...and who wants to just put holes in a target in a video game?

Key word... arcade. ;) The PC version will be Storm of War: Battle of Britian by 1C Maddox games. When that will be out is anyone's guess.

A2A's Battle of Britain II is pretty immersive.

PC version will blow you away. A2A's version does now. ;)

Not sure what's up Oleg's sleeve but it should pretty good.

Sorry, but that is very misleading and incorrect. SoW:BoB has nothing in common with IL2 Birds of Prey. They don't even share the engine, even less the plane set, plane modelling, damagemodelling, AI, or landscape. Not even the company making the sims is the same. And it comes out fall 2010.

BOBII is excellent. Or at least it was the last time I gave it a go.

Played the Axis part and actually defeated the Brits and took the island ... I kept a running diary of my exploits on the forums over at A2A ...
