I'm really close....

Hi Lou,
today I am sort of in the same boat as you with 24....but it loads up everytime just fine and lets me select departure airport and destination. But when I select aircraft....it either does a CTD without any information provided or it just sits there forever.
I did leave it in that second state for 2 hours while I depressurized :)
But at least 20 only needed a small NAV update and it worked fine.

I am debating on doing a reinstall of 24 just so i get something back from my aviator package beside the few hardware gimmicks. Or simply bin the whole thing for now, until the reports on stability etc are improved.
This is an abomination of a software release, no ifs ands or butts about it.
And if one has been around FS from Microprose/Microsoft for 40+ years such as I have, you have seen some more or less stable releases. But this thing does take the cake.

II wonder if the program is hardware sensitive. I will admit that it is a moving object on shifting sands. I have found it to be very stable which surprises me as I have a slow and unreliable internet situation. What does drive me wild is the control bindings which seem to be fluid. Also the autopilot setting seem to be a moving target, they will work for a while then not. These are mostly necessary for flight test to get stable values for a couple of projects I am working on.

I wonder the same thing, hardware sensitive. After my initial problems, mine has been fairly stable. Loading and control bindings have been good, however, my X-56 throttle quadrant has been sending a lot of wierd, uninitiated button presses. My biggest, everytime one is the parking brake comes on everytime I lower the gear. Totally different and far apart buttons. I am getting ready to rearrange my desk so I can mount my Honeycomb Yoke and Throttle Quadrant.

I have a backlog of screenshots to post, as I've been trying out different aircraft, many of which were unflyable, for me, in 2020. Since I am basically a GA low & slow flyer, I haven't mastered all the advanced stff, like autopilot (in 2020-2024) or even the unusable GPS, in 2024, which I used a lot in 2020. Used the autopilot in FSX/P3D with no problems.

Well, the hardware discussion is ONE of the items that back up my Xbox theory. It sure seems like they are tuning it for one piece of hardware with no regard for any other. Maybe the short quick money is with Xbox and they'll figure out that it's the simmer that keeps coming back for more in the long run. Or maybe the whole thing will run the same route as Microsoft Flight. Problem for us is that now we need their servers to run the thing (unlike FSX, but maybe that's part of their plan). Watch us all wind back up on FSX. lol

Well, it was really nice to get some back country flying in Idaho today in FS 2020. Another point I noticed, I don't think we are getting the performance boost we were led to believe in FS 2024 based on the flight I did today in 2020. Don't get me wrong here, I really hope they can straighten that mess out in 2024.

Honestly, I don't think that performance in 2024 is worse. On the contrary actually. It's just that you have to differentiate in the settings. Both in Adrenaline (AMD), Nvidia CP (Nvidia obviously) and the sims.

For me personally, it's different stuff (control bindings mainly, and the location of the community folder that they have to keep their effing mits off). In other words, I buy one of their beta's, they do not get to change my settings.

*Rant mode off*

I seem to see better performance in 2024 than I did in 2020, and I have an older system with all the MSFS2024 settings as high as they will go. Also so far so good that I haven't had any of the CTDs that I've read about. The only thing I do see in that regard, is occasionally it will hang at the very last screen before it quits to desktop. When that happens, I just bring up my Steam Library page and tell it to "Stop" MSFS2024.

At this point, I'm disappointed that it was released with so many basic free flight necessities that are missing and non-functional, but I'm not at the point I was early on where I was ready to drop back to MSFS2020 at any minute.

I'm also hoping that my missing 9 MSMP aircraft and missing 36 MSMP airports show up.

This morning I was again (fifth time) awarded the new user trophy, allowing me to recreate all the bindings and preferences from scratch. Some Axis and Ohs seem to not work properly, I had thought this might be a decent workaround.

I have had some success with the program...but there are some things that just drive me nuts. The nearly constant disconnect from live traffic (with the accompanying ding and on-screen message) is the one thing that finally drove me to uninstall this morning. I'll stick with 2020 for a month or two until Asobo decide that this really isn't a game, but a simulation with game like aspects. I haven't tried Career Mode, but from what I'm seeing on other websites it's really not worth the investment in time. I'll stick with AirHauler 2 and MSFS2020 for now.

Yesterday checking out the Carenado C170B in FS2024, then FS2020, with a flight from the same location in Texas.
I couldn't help noticing that the FS2020 ground scenery was better. The vegetation was more defined, my FS2024 trees are still scraggly in their upper halves.

I do get the live traffic message block regularly, but not as irritating as the 2020 lost internet large block which would typically impede my view while landing. All will eventually be fixed, the most irritating is the new user trophy where I get to re assign all my controls and preferences. Control preferences should not be in the cloud. Had this happen five times now.

Actually having the controls and preference being stored in the cloud is a good idea. The problem is that since a few months now, Micro$oft has been having sync and authentication problems with their Azure cloud storage, where our profiles for MSFS (all versions) are being stored.

In 2020 it has worked well for me a couple of times. I do regular clean reinstalls (call it masochism) and very single time, I haven't needed to fiddle with the 2020 controls and preferences. 2024 on the other hand doesn't even need a reinstall to make me have to start all over again.

The only times in close to 40 years of flight swimming I ever had to do a re install was when my computer hard drive crashed and when I moved to a new computer. I was late coming to 2020 and unfortunately circumstances caused me to be an initial adopter of 2024. Time will wound all heals? It will get better!

Oh, I do regular clean installs. Because it is the best way to keep your rig crisp and clean.

I've gone back to 2020. I'm gonna wait three years like I did to switch from FSX/P3D to 2020 before I fly 2024 again. I got tired of re-doing all my TB FlightDeck controls every time I tried to fly 2024. The graphics are good but not enough to make me a convert currently.

After spending some of the time before and after XMas to fiddle with things I can safely say you can make FS24 work. ;)
You just need to shell out some more money or setup time to get it working half decently. Of course what that exactly means is also depending on your preferences.

1. Move the community folder out to a location of your choosing and away from the default.
2. addonlinker…. Just so that you can easily move things in and out of the sim.
3. SpadNxt = no more trouble with control bindings, almost. You just need to go through once and delete everything stock within the sim. It does take some time because it’s almost as if they are trying to hide the bindings. FSUIPC does work as well but is in some ways not as easy to configure with 24.
4. FSLTL for traffic with matching liveries and real world or similar flight routines.
5. ActiveSky for decent Wx decoding that actually seems to match real world Wx closely. At least here in Europe where I had on the ground observation compared to what the sim showed…with and without AS.
6. BeyondATC if you want to fly with offline ATC that actually works, at least for IFR flights planned through SimBrief.

Some of the AC still have serious problems but at least with the Aviator Edition there are plenty to try out. And some like the HU16 do work fairly well.

What I have not been able to sort is the idiotic blue boxes in the sky…I have all assistance settings OFF and yet they still appear both in freeflight as well as career mode.
And about every third or forth restart I have to reset the 3rd monitor settings. Actually I have to add a 4th monitor which i don’t have, set the same offsets as I have on the third, then when the forth is showing what the third should I can delete that useless one.

And then there are still the crashes in career mode with invisible boxes or double painted taxiway lines that are quite frustrating.
I have learned to live with the deduction I get if the airport doesn’t have parking spots and you therefore start on the runway. As soon as you start the engine you are dinged for entering the runway without communicating with ATC

Ctrl+\ toggles them on and off. I toggle them off before take-off and on after landing, so that I can see the taxi ribbon for parking guidance.

@tiger1962 …. I will try that out. But why do they show when it’s off in the options ??
And the taxi ribbons don’t show when you do want them 🤪🤪
I know the grief our my colleagues in software development get when they release something with a few teething problems.
But none of their stuff was ever this bad when it went into BETA 😂

" idiotic blue boxes in the sky" ? Not sure what you mean here. Some kind of pixalation, or info?
