In vista, how do you go to start/run and get config box?

I run Vista 64 bit and what I did (and as I always have done) is run Vista in totally Classic mode and it removes all the new ways of doing the same old tasks and after so many years. That leaves more power for other tasks such as flight simming etc. Now I can fully realize the power of new equipment AND with a new OS. Vista 64, an i7 with 6 GB DDR3 is fast period.

Personally I don't care about Aero anything, bells, whistles and all the other assorted and alleged "cool" stuff.

I assume you are trying to get to msconfig, simply start and type msconfig in the search box then click on the result. The jpg is in windows 7 but it's the same in Vista.

Start/All Programs/Accessories/Run, then type msconfig. To put the Run command in your Start menu.. go to Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization, under "Taskbar and Start menu" click on Customize the Start Menu, a new winder will open, scroll down until you see "Run Command" put a check in the box, click OK. Now the Run command will be listed in your Start Menu. This works for both Vista and 7.

The msconfig proggy is in the Windows\system32 folder. Go to it and right click for the menu, choose "Pin to Start Menu". Now you have an perpetual point and click shortcut with no typing involved. It will be listed in the Start Menu as System Configuration Utility.
