Incheon Landing 1950

Hi,

just started the work on the next scenery i want to make. It will be the "Landing of Incheon" during the Korean War in Sep. 1950. It`s known under the name "Operation Chromite". This is just the first post to inform what futures this scenery will get.

First of all i have to make new islands and new coast`s for a very big aerea (you can see the hole area to remake on the map... it`s the hole red marked square)
This must be done because in 1950 most of the islands and a big part of the coast`s look very different from today. Korean people tried to get more land from the sea an they have been very bussy to do that thins that old time. Best sample is the big airport of Inchon (RKSI). Today its just one island with the big airport.... in 1950 that airport doesn`t exist and there were three islands....looking very different. So i had to get good topographical maps (found them) from this time and put all the coast line to google earth. Then all islands and the coast`s had been rebuilt to 1950 in SBuilderX (most is done now.)

Next step will be to doo all the landclases for this redone stuff (much work to do)

Then there will be a remake of the old airport (Gimpo (RKSS)) as US forces found it in 1950. The citys of Incheon and Seoul look different in this time too.

The moving ai traffic will place over 250 ships of the invasion fleet moving to the beaches.... leaving them after 12 hours and moving back the next day (as they did in real). The ai traffic in air also will be very impressiv.

So please take notice that this will take a longer time to do. This will not be a scenery that is ready "tomorrow" ;-)

First parts of the new islands is done (without the landclasses...only the coast line. all marked in blue on that following map)

Continiusly i will post information about the upcomeing progress in here.

Just a little picture that shows the past and now. Incheon coastline 1950.... and you can see also the much bigger coastlines from now. Just didn`t deleate this line to show what changes where made over the last 56 years. (Landclasses are not changed... still show the city from today. Incheon was much smaler in 1950)

The island in front is Woimi-do.... that was the "Green Beach" ... one of the three landingbeaches.

And onother one with the named places of the landing beaches and in the left corner you can see Gimpo Airfield.

Oh, heck yes.

All day long.

Bravo for taking this on.

Something to consider - for both yours and Mark's respective Korean and Vietnamese period projects. Calclassic's Asia Pacific Scenery, though created for FS9, works well in FSX. They've already built a whole bunch of airports for Pyongyang, Seoul, (for Korea) and Da Nang, Hanoi, etc. for Vietnam).

http://www.calclassic.com/scenery.htm#Asia

I'd bet they'd be open to a discussion around how to either include them, or at have them work alongside, these upcoming projects. Seems like a natural fit, or at least a starting point to where there are civilian airports involved.

Had a look into the airports. They work fine in FSX. Perhaps i will take this one`s to join the "Incheon Landing" scenery.

Till now i ve got a good progress. All islands and the coastline are ready. Started now to change the landclasses and did first changes on Incheon and Womimi-do.

Looks great Klaus,

Just make sure you ask Tom for permission beforehand, if it/(they) are included.

I like the effects - will make this far more immersive.

You could also try installing FSX@War that includes many
fire & smoke effects, apart of the many simobjects - that come
in 3 states operational/damaged/destroyed - that maybe some or few
could fit this project as scenery objects also.

I've never tried this approach with the FSX@War contents that are also
intented for modern theaters.
Just an idea, but on the other hand such an approach could mean - result
to an FSX@War dependant scenery to work...

For sure i will do that. It is his work ... even when i would like to make little changes. Without his approval this airport will not be part of this scenery :)

Some picture of last progress. Many parts of the landclasses in the "Incheon aera" changed (so the city is much smaler now and no highrise in this aerea). First AI-ships are moving in to the "Green Landing Beach" Just a part of this fleet (will grow up....), nothing for red and blue beach till now. And many adjustments to do....

5.45 am .....fleet is moving in

Same time.... battle group nearby

06.07 am ... the landing at "Green Beach" (Woimi-do) has started....

Some changes i did this week, using much time of my hollydays (could do that because this week only i´ve got free time.... my wife has to go to work :a1310: )
So this is the reason that progress steps foreword in a very good way.

Just a look for the changed landclasses (about the half is done)
incheoninsel1.jpg

Individual routes for 130 ai-ships (thats also nearly the half) are done. Till now they work fine in fsx.
Incheonroute2.jpg

Next i will step foreword with the rest of the landclasses and with the rest ( about 140...) ships. Followed bye the big ai-air traffic and many static vehicles on all beaches.
Still trying to get contact with Mr. Miyu (he did the freeware airport Gimpo and i need his permission to use his airport in this scenery) but his email adress seams to change. Trying to find a new way to get in contakt with him.

Ok... that`s it for today

Just what it looks today. Most of the south part islands are ready. Big island on pictures is Yeongheung-do. This island was also part of the action around Incheon Landing. Some days before the big landing happend, this island was captured by US forces in a landing to be save with the route for the invasion fleet, that has to pass this island. US forces build up a radio station on this island. Almost the same happend to some other little islands in Incheon Aerea.

AI ship traffic will show this landings too (a little part of this you can see on the pictures right now).

I like your ideas and commitment (and this period), can't wait :applause: !
Did You test it in P3D also? In AI for Chodo 1952 was a problem with some addons from AI package.

Thanks :jump: ... i will hurry up but it`s a long way to go till it`s ready.

I`ve got no P3D ... so i only do it for FSX (as AI traffic for chodo or the scenery of Emirau). Perhaps a friend of mine can help with testig....

I'm also excited. Don't hurry - this'll be worth the wait.

It makes me wonder if there's any way Jankees or a another repainter who did such good WWII schemes on the older, but still-nice A2A Corsair could do a weathered period repaint for that model? John T did a nice restored version which I fly, but a weatherbeaten scheme like this would be a timely addition:

I say the A2A, since it's the closest to the F4U-5 and AU-1 models used...

Time for a little update ....

Two more landings on islands near Incheon are ready. On both islands the us forces install radiostations to control the sea around. Just before the big "Incheon Landing" the same happend to 6 islands around the landing zone. I will do all this landings in this package. Just one thing will not be historical. These landings happend between 10 and 4 days before the big one. I will let them happen all at the same day. Just on different times. So you can travel all this landings and then you will see the big one.

This is the map for the north landing zone with routes for ai ship-traffic.

As you can see...there is a good progress at all. Hope that you must not wait to long for this.
