Hi All
I have been working on a Long Island Class CVE and have run into a bit of a problem.
The design is complete, however the ship is invisible, except for the Radio Antennae and Radar.
Long Island Missing Textures.jpg

The Radio Antennae use a separate BMP, with an alpha channel.
The Radar uses the main BMP.
I have used Martin Wrights tools to save as:
DX1 (no alpha)
DX1
DX3
DX5
with the same result.
Oddly enough, I had sthe same problem, with the same ship, earlier in the building process.
I managed to solve it, but I can't remember how.:dizzy:
Any ideas.
Cheers
Stuart

Looks like the main BMP alpha got messed up and is now adding black to everything.

Hi Stuart,

It looks like the alpha for the main bitmap has become reversed. If you view it in DXTbmp the alpha preview window it will show as black (fully transparent) with white strips for the radar antenna. It should be white (fully opaque), with black stripes for the transparent parts of the radar antenna.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hi norab, Allen and UncleTgt:wavey: Thanks for your help.
No joy yet, Extended 32 bit 888-8 does not work.
There are 3 sets of texture files associated with the model.
1. Main Texture File. there is no alpha channel in this file. The radar in the upper left of the picture has been textures from the main Texture file.

2. IJN Escort Carriers, used for the base of the Radio antennae (Ijust used the merge function). there is no alpha channel in this file.
3. IJN Radio antennae, there is an alpha with this file.
Cheers
Stuart

Hi Guys

Hi Allen and UncleTgt
I will put the GMax model and the texture file in a Zip File.
I am not sure about model material transparency settings in G-MAX.
One thing I did notive is that '2 sided' is ticked
PS I have changed the Antenna Texture file to make it simpler.
Cheers
Stuart

Well that was simple.

Exceeded polygon count for a LOD. Deleted all of the rafts and it exported just fine at 13,030 polygons. The polygon count cap is about 18,000 to 19,000 in my testing for a single LOD. Have yet to hit a cap for the whole model with many LODs. I think the max I have ever done for a model including interior and all exterior LODs is 38,752 for the rebuild of the stock B-24D to a B-24J.

Your model need to go on a major diet.... Try to get under 15,000 polygons and do the polygon count with ALL parts as Editable Mesh or the count will be wrong.

Bingo

Hi Allen
Thanks for that.
I deleted 8 rafts and with about 16000 polygons ther is now a visible carrier.:applause:
Should have it ready by the end of the day, its raining here, first real rain for 4 months.
Cheers
Stuart

Dose the rain try to kill you like everything else dose in Australia?
