Interesting Commercial

I once bumped into an elderly gentleman at a local "bikers" watering hole. He was riding a bicycle...100 miles a day. He was 88 years old. We began to talk motorcycles and airplanes. He told me about his collection of vintage bikes. One was a '44 BMW sidecar staff bike.

This gentleman had done his tour in a Fortress over Germany. At the end of the war he traded a some chocolates and a pack of cigarettes with a German officer for the BMW. The bike came home in the belly of the B-17. The duty officer stateside give the guy a lot of grief, but let him keep the bike.

The bike still lives here in Bishop, CA. I occasionally see the old gentleman riding his bicycle on his long tours. In this day and age we tend to lose sight of our history and the contributions, sacrifices and love these old gents have bestowed upon us.

Yep...this one got to me too.
