ipod question (help)

back in may i found an 8 gig ipod on the ground. it went on the fritz so we took it to the apple store for repair. it was still under warranty, so they gave us a brand new one. for some reason, my computer can't see it when i plug it in. my o/s is xp home. can anyone tell me how to correct this? my step daughter is going nutz without her tunes, and i can't load anything on it until my computer can "see" it.

cheezy,...........have you FIRST downloaded from the Apple web sight their 'I-Tunes' program? You need I-tunes first. No cost. Wonderful program if you have or don't have an I-pod. Anyway,....download I Tunes,....your computer should then pick up the Ipod input.

are you on iTunes when you plug it in? ....

or use a diiferent usb port.... and check the battery... be sure it is on...

it it is on... try to turn it off again and on again...

... OR go back to Apple and tell them about the problem.... :engel016:

I hope it works out for your daughter!

Hey CF,

ChaCha is right.

If you cannot get it to be seen, it could either be your cord, or the unit. Apple can then varify this by plugging it into one of their show units on the sales floor. If it doesnt show up, its not talking. They can send it in to HQ and take it apart and try to fix it.

When I have questions, I always go to the Apple forums;
discussions.apple.com <-- link or address

I have read of these issues happening. Usually its with Windows.

Also, try a different USB port. Sometimes Windows flips them or something and suddenly a device is no longer recognised in a USB port for some goofy reason, but will work in other ports.

You should get her that new iPod with the camera and movie screen. That thing is super small... They sell that at Walmart here and the prices are not bad. (well... they are, but not terribly bad for all the cool things they do).

i downloaded itunes, but that hasn't changed anything. it's not seen in there or in widows explorer. the ipod is brand spankin new, from the ipod store as of yesterday. it's fully charged, and i have re-set, tried putting into disc mode, etc. the old one was under warranty and they replaced it with a new one. with the other one i didn't have itunes and it seemed to work just fine using media monkey. however, the last time i plugged that one in was back in june. i suspect that something i've done to the computer since then has caused this. i was hoping someone else might have an idea of what to look for.
bill thanks for the link, i am going to go there very next.

Cheezy,....have you first downloaded some songs into the Itunes library in order to transfer them into your Ipod? If you click the Itunes icon located on desktop you'll notice that (at this time) you don't have any songs installed in the 'Itunes library.'

Did you try completely turning the iPhone off and on? Not sure how the iPhone does it, but on the Touch, you hold the top button down for a few seconds and move the slider that appears to the off position.

no, nothing new to report except that i am more sure than ever that it's this computer. even though it "sees" my coby, it will no longer sync it.

***edit, i should also report that my step daughter has yet to test the unit in someone else's computer.
that kinda annoys me. i figure if i work to try and do something for her the least she can do is play some part of her own.

I hope iPod works ok, and it is just your computer not reading her stuff....

... everything will be ok....:engel016:

actually i would rather it the other way. the ipod was free. the computer is....less free than the ipod

Oops... I reverse that!

I hope your computer is ok, and her iPod does not want to respond to your computer, how about that? :bump:
