IRIS f-16 Vapor?

Spilot69

Charter Member
can someone post how to put the vapor coming off the wing roots. I love the effects in the aerosoft version, and is really missing in the IRIS f-16. Does anyone have the contact points so I can use maybe the Mirage III vapor effects on the IRIS f-16? Or anyone have some ideas how to make this work?

I tried that with the mirage III effects and it just didn't work unfortunately! I got stumped and so gave up in the end, but I do agree it really needs those effects as its not an f16 without them!

Try this:

1) Add this line to your aircraft.cfg - [lights] section :

light.16 = 8, 5.0, 0.0, 0.7, fx_vapor_fa18

2) Add this line to your panel.cfg - [Vcockpit01] section :

gauge07=Effect_Controller!WingrootVapor_light8, 10,10,10,10

3) Unzip the attached ZIP file (contains folder Effect_Controller and file fx_vapor_fa18.fx )

4) Add folder Effect_Controller to your panel or FSX gauges folder

5) Add file fx_vapor_fa18.fx to the FSX effects folder

Notes:
- The effect is active during 5.5+ G
- Credit for the fx_vapor_fa18.fx file goes to Toshikazu Shimizu who created this for the KBT Super Hornet.

cheers, Henk.

Thank you!

A little question, Can I use the aerosoft f-16 fapor effect? It is the same thing? (sorry for my bad english)

I do not know if/which fx file is used by Aerosoft, but I cannot imagine it is the same as the one I used. As explained above, I borrowed it from the Team FS KBT freeware Super Hornet.

Anyway, having watched and photographed many real F-16's, I think this effect comes quite close.

PS: I am very impressed by your Hawk repaints and screenshots :applause:

cheers, Henk.

Guess it went lost in cyberspace with the site upgrading, anyway I attached it again :wiggle:

I have a little problem!
The Vapor will only work if you turn on the NAV lights
This is not a perfect
Do you have another idea?

zsoltquack, make sure the light channel no. in the additional Aircraft.cfg line is correct:

light.16 = 8, 5.0, 0.0, 0.7, fx_vapor_fa18

It seems to me you may have entered no. 3 which is for NAV lights:

light.16 = 3, 5.0, 0.0, 0.7, fx_vapor_fa18

Other than that I have no idea why it should not work for you as it does for anyone else :confused:

Thank you!

You cannot. The Aerosoft "strake fog" is modelled with textures to gradually load at around +3 Gs. This an estimated value for "normal humidity" conditions that we decided to use. You can see vapor from the strakes over the fuselage even at landing conditions with 11 degrees AOA and 160 kts in humid conditions. An F-16 with this effect missing would not be too good. Putting vortices from the tips as a substitute would be even more wrong.

Thanks

I rewrote the 8---> 3, but did not change anything!
Worth a try...:-(

Actually i have the same problem, i can only make the vapor visible when i turn the lights on by pressing the "l" key. But then the vapor is always "on".
Strange, i have checked the numbers in the lights section and they are exactly like how you have written them from the beginning. I cannot find any reason to why it would not work? Light channel 8 is wing, is that correct?

It should be lights 8 indeed which is the WING light. I just did a flight and mine works as it should. If I hit the L key, only the lights come on. Beats me why yours isn't working.
Then I did another test with the gauge07=Effect_Controllers!WingrootVapor_light8, 10,10,10,10 line in my panel.cfg deactivated. This time I have the same problem you described. Conclusion: For some reason, the gauge is not working on your panel.cfg. There may be several causes like:

- VC section has 2 gauge lines with the same sequence no.
- Gauge folder Effect_Controllers not placed in correct location (should be in FSX Gauges folder or in F-16 panel folder)

hope this helps.

It is one letter that causes this problem, the letter S. :jump:

In the panel config it you put this line: gauge07=Effect_Controller!WingrootVapor_light8, 10,10,10,10

And in the new package the folder containing the controller is called Effect_Controllers.

So the gauge will not be effective until you rename the folder Effect_controller.
Then it works like a charm, thank you for your nice addon Henk!!

I hope this explanation is understandable but i found it hard to explain in English, i can do it perfectly in Swedish though, hehe
