Iris Freeware Phantom Coming

Well, I believe the nose strut would extend for catapult shots, but that seems exaggerated to me....NC

Over this side of the pond we had shorter (and smaller!) aircraft carriers', so our F4-K models (Phantom FG.1) got a double-extending noseleg to compensate for shorter cat length, only used off the cat.

As a side note, the last Phantom I worked on was the sole YF4-K, had been used all its life as a trials ship for BAe.

yeah the longer nosegear was to increase the AoA on the deck in an effort to optimise the lift at launch...

According to some accounts I've heard the Increased AoA and increased power from the Speys blew two scorching holes in the flight deck of USS Saratoga whilst the F-K's were on pre-delivery trials, apparently Saratoga was laid up for a while whilst her Jet Blast defectors were replaced, Coz they'd Buckled under the stress. I Dunno how true that is but it would explain why most JBD's are cooled nowadays.

Hooky:salute:

reminds me of the Zapping incidents.... for those unaware, zapping is the art of tagging another nation, or squadrons aircraft in your own colours... here for example is a USMC Phantom VMFA-531 (Note the tail):

now if i recall this was the retaliation:

Interesting HU on the F4-K's, Pete, I believe the Speys also went a long way in acceleration/climb enhancement too.

BTW, you had me completely stumped with the 'guess who's Pete' photo.

I missed the bit about "more hair", first time around...

Ahhh, click! - Now I see...gotcha!

I'll see if i can get any more news from David tonight if i spot him :salute: i too want these beauties back (i have both the installers should he have lost them :) )

the official line is "Freeware packages are at the discretion of the publisher, and currently it is in "waiting" until we decide what we will release." :salute:
