Iris PC-21 pre-order model?

DaveKDEN

Has anyone purchased the pre-order model of the Iris PC-21 ($10.00 off w. free upgrade to full model when it's complete)? I'm just curious about the functionality of the pre-order model. Specifically, does it have some working VC gauges, and is the 1 hour time limit a total time (e.g., hobbs meter limit) or 1 hour at a time (can be reset by re-loading the aircraft)?

PC-21 Pre-Order Model

Only the center panel on the flight instruments is functional, no functional buttons (from what I can tell) and you can not view into the cockpit from outside. You get one paint. The handling is really fine. I have not noticed that the model stops operating after one (1) hour. but have never flown it longer than one (1) hour at one sitting (A-D-D perhaps). I have seen screen shots of the Iris PC-21 being used by beta testers and it looks like it will be another winner for Iris. (Just so I can make full disclosure) I hope Iris improves their product support or this will be my last purchase from them.

Thanks Jay.

We're just around the corner from launching too... :) I'd wanted to get it out by the weekend, but I got to talk to some PC-21 aircrew at the Australian International Airshow and we're just applying a couple of minor changes here and there based on their feedback. ;)

As an update, she's done... :)

Official launch is Wednesday 6th of March, however, Pre-Order customers will be able to download the release version around 9.30/10.00am AEST, Tuesday 5th March... a full day earlier, plus 10 bucks cheaper!

I'm heading to bed so will leave the pre-order offer open for about another 8 hours before I start transitioning files at which time you won't be able to purchase until the general release on the 6th... ;) Night all.... happy shopping!

After messing around with the pre-release model for about 45 minutes now, I'm likely to immensely enjoy the production version!

John and Dave,

Some testers did report some frame rate hit with the PC-21 gauges. The PC-21 uses 6 glass displays at a resolution of 640x844 pixels as per the manufacturers published specs for those units. The plus side is that you get the same resolution image in the VC as the actual PC-21 pilots get, so clarity is great. The downside is that the units do need a fair bit of processing power to handle at full resolution.

That being said, we've included in the Microsoft Flight Simulator X/IRIS/Pro Training Series/Pilatus PC-21/Optimizers/ folder, a performance gauge program which when installed, will reduce the resolution of the MFDs and PFDs by half, however in doing so, will improve performance significantly based on beta tester feedback. The optimised gauges are slightly less sharp than the originals, but the performance benefit is worth it for lower end machines.

As for the poly count and drawcalls in the aircraft, it's about half of the F-15E, so if you have no problem running that, you should be fine with the PC-21. :)

I'll be putting some tutorial videos online shortly.

David.

Okay, I've e-mailed Adrian at FlightsimStore with the file download details for the PC-21 and knowing him, he'll be on it like...well, like Adrian..lol.

If you've purchased from the IRIS Storefront, log into your account and follow the instructions below;

1. Click 'Account' on the top menu.
2. Click 'View' on your PC-21 order.
3. Click the link to download the product, it should now show 151Mb in size.

PRIOR to installing (AND THIS IS IMPORTANT!)

1. Navigate to your Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Simobjects/Airplanes folder and DELETE the following folders;

a. ANYTHING beginning with IRIS PC-21

Failure to do so will result in errors or duplicate aircraft appearing in your aircraft listing. :)

This is ONLY for those who pre-ordered. The general public will get access to it on the 6th March (about 24 hours)

FYI, I just downloaded the full version from FSS. I just went to my original "pre-order" and redownloaded and followed David's instructions in the post above. Now I'm off to take a quick look. :)

Lovely shot John, How's the framerates on your PC?

It's one thing to get tester feedback, but the real test is when customers get it.. :)

So far so good here as well! Nicely done IRIS! Works on my aged machine with the default gauge resolution, but it's fantastic with the "performance" gauge option. What resolution is lost is certainly minimal - as everything is very legible.
Off to browse through the manual and looking forward to some re-paints.

One quick question - how do you remove the external underwing tanks?

anywhere from 16 to 25 FPS depending on where I'm flying.....doesn't want to shut down though.....learning curve I guess.

To remove the fuel tanks;

1. Make sure your engine is off, you're on the ground and stationary.
2. Make sure your Left and Right Aux Fuel Tanks are empty on the FSX Fuel and Payload Manager.
2. Power up the CDU.
3. Click 'SYSTEM PAGE'
4. Click 'COMPONENTS'
5. Click 'FUEL TANKS' until the fuel tank indication reads 'NOT FITTED'.

:) That should do it.

John, to shut down your engine, right mouse click on the small 'fuel cutoff paddle' in front of the throttle lever. It's actually attached to the lever itself.

Holly smokes. I just downloaded the Preview at 17:30! Off to get the complete aircraft now!

Quick flight:

- 28 FPS steady, over ORBX FTX PNW, full sliders to the Right. Non performance enhanced guages.
- extremely smooth operations, nice audio.
- Spoilers on wings do not deploy, but air brake OK. ???
- Flashing strobes were very cool in the demo, less bright in the final model.
- Need more Textures! I assume more are on the way.
