• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Is a shadow N-S at noon?

"Is Canada or any other northern region any better with the time zones?"

Over here in the land of the midnight sun, NWT is no different then Alaska. Although im getting used to golfing at midnight lol.

Postscript

Of course, poking around looking for sun information, you can't help but fall over sundials everywhere...
So I made my own.
Here's where I found how to space the hours.
Here you can see the noon time differences for your location.
And there are lots of sites (of course) which show things like finding north using the Shadow Plot method.

Of course I had to use the iPhone to find true north.
Given it also has a clock which is accurate to 1 microsecond per millenium, you'd wonder: why bother.
But it gave me a kick to walk past it during the day and go "Yup, that's right"
And take some photos with my iPhone (as all in this thread were...)

What I'm begging to think Wing_Z, is that you have WAY too much TIME! :icon_lol:

(no pun intended...well, not much of one anyway)

Well I asked for that...but so did you:
TeaSea, I Make Time! heh heh
(In truth the sundial took all of 35 minutes to make...;) )
