Is Microsoft building a new fs dev-team ?

Care to elaborate? Microsoft is a business, not a charity. If any company can dominate a market, you can expect to see them making the decisions they know we'll have to follow instead of giving us whatever we want. That's the nature of things.

Your making baseless assumptions on a product thats not even confirmed. BTW, Bill Gates has donated more money then any HUMAN alive. Should look up your facts.

Again, the new product's development and direction has been confirmed by Microsoft in multiple releases.

Bill Gates is not Microsoft, and Microsoft's business model is not part of Bill Gates' philanthropy. If Microsoft was a non-profit organization, then Bill Gates wouldn't be a billioniare. :ernae:

I think what Gibbage is saying here, tigisfat, is that it is usually unwise to make sweeping generalities.

Not only is Bill Gates and wife Melinda huge philanthrophists (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) but also you should check out the many fine works of the co-founder, Paul Allen. Paul has been a huge benefactor for aviation and frankly if it wasn't for him, it is likely there wouldn't even be an FS series.

There have been trends in the market that have concerned me. But, that doesn't mean people don't care what the customers think. While I have not pirated software myself, it is undeniable that a large part of the desire for online O/S is to better prevent software piracy. I cannot say I disagree with that desire. I bet Microsoft is the single greatest victim of lost revenues from piracy in human history.

Cheers,

Ken

Further, some of us participated in a demographic study about what we wanted in flight software for the future. Ideas as wacky as being sparrows chasing hawks away from nests were suggested.

That is wacky.. or quacky.. I did however make a freeware called Animal Simulation years ago for FS9 and put it up at avsim.. It got thousands of downloads where you fly an eagle or a geese flock or something.. you could even drop bird poop by the exit key.... I think it is just up to the developers to continue addons for FSX and acceleration and the platform is good enough for years to come.. I might just do that animal sim again for FSX.. this time add some cool mission sounds and onboard effects!!!

I did that study, and I still like the idea of the birds one. That was right before that statement from their press team that said the new game would 'synergize' with other windows titles. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I saw that. She was probably so proud of herself for slipping that buzzword in.

That would be awesome!! I'll have to go look your old version up. Do you have any screenies you could share with us?

I'd wait and see what's guys at Microsoft are doing until I'll complain :)

Rise of Flight and Wings of Prey are already using online system similar to GfW, or Steam. Railworks is using Steam. Games for Windows is out for a while, you can start it in offline mode and play without permanent connecion. I have few games that uses GfW and don't have any problems with it.

The rumors and innuendo surprise me, but should not be discounted considering the passion that permeates the community.

Windows Live for Games or whatever it's called? Anyone care to tell of their many happy experiences when multi-playering with GameSpy? So where else might Microsoft look to move multi-player functionality if not to their own game servers? Does not mean that it's going cloud computing or that third-party developers are now out of business.

Let's please try to be rational in our thought, comments and emotions. I've always believed there will be a FS11 and there has been nothing, I repeat nothing publicly stated that sways my opinion. If and when FS11 shows up (next year?), I expect it to be the kick-a$$ sim we all expected FSX to be.

Now back to my uploading he!!. Will trade free software for a fast upload speed!!!

I am very aware of their philanthropy. They've all but eradicated problems with malaria in many places around the globe. It's truly great, and it makes me fantasize about all the great things I could do with billions of dollars. You could never stop spending money on yourself and still help people just about whenever you wanted.

It's still fair to assume that a studio 1,000's of levels below the former CEO in one of the world's largest companies will make smart marketing decision. To say otherwise because the former CEO is a philanthropist is making a more larger leap of assumption.

Isn't all of this assumption until they announce something? I say we wait for MS to make a substantive announcement before ripping into them. After more than two decades of making us happy with their software, I think they've earned that.

Am I the only one that remembers Microsoft's announcement of the new title last year? I must be. It was only a couple months after the official closing of ACES. They didn't name the new product or mention a specific franchise, but they did specifically tell us they were developing new flight software for Windows Live.

Many ACES workers also hinted after that they were working on a new flight project for microsoft.

Think 2012....2014......2016.
Pick a year, any year, if anything is going to happen it will do so when and if it suits the developer.
:173go1:

All MS said it that it would contenue the FS brand after the closing. I remember that press release well, since I was one of those Aces workers that got dismissed. They have NOT said HOW or WHEN. Anything right now is pure speculation.

You seem very angry Tigs. Its unhealthy. You have every right too your openion, but spreading hate based on speculation just isent cool.

Hate? I see no hate?

No hate here, just confusion. Follow my posts back to the beginning of this thread and watch the various reactions, it's worth a laugh.

Repeating press releases is not speculating.

Anyway, I don't know who, but there are probably people in here that are laughing at this thread because they are being consulted about the new flight software for Microsoft.

What was your job? Did you try to get onto the new team?

Gib's a modeler. He's done a lot of work in the IL-2 realm too.

There's probably a lot of people fighting for those jobs. You probably gotta be super good to get a position like that. :salute:

Yeah, Gibbage has done some fantastic work. I've primarily known his works through the IL-2 series and was suprised to see his name around the MSFS several years ago.

Great stuff btw Gib :salute:

Some additional clarification:

If I offended anyone, I apologize. I understand that many from the Microsoft aviation teams view these forums, and that over time, many from here have contributed to them as well. :salute:

I meant not to say that game designers, artists, team leaders and managers in-studio don't listen to us, we know they do based on their contributions in this very forum. My comment was to say that any large corporation can always exercise it's right to guide a studio's efforts, and there is always a possibility our desires may get overruled.

Again, I apologize if anyone understood that wrong. :ernae:

I can only reference past statements and announcements and look forward to future ones.
