Is my joystick dying?

I have a hell of a time flying straight and level on calm days, even when not drinking whiskey.

Awhile back I noticed that I needed to trim all my AC nose down a fair amount to get them to fly level. Shortly after that I was flying a 747 and there was a little onscreen pipper showing my joystick position on one of the MFD's and I noticed that although I could reach the top two corners when moving the stick up, I couldn't get all the way to the bottom when pulling back. Aha, calibration I thought so I popped into my Windows game controller area and found that although my Saitek Cyborg Evo stick has a screen to show control movements there is no "calibration" section for some reason. There to, like in the 747 I found I could push the pipper to the top left and tight but only within about an 1/8th inch from the bottom. I then reinstalled the proper stick drivers which sorted me out and all was well for an evening, but now I find it's doing the same thing all over again.

It's off center somehow so I'm always pulling back to a gradual climb, and worse it spikes so I'm jumping up and down now and then at random sometimes enough to give me an "over G" warning when flying the T45C for example. Most annoying. I tried spraying a little lube into the bottom socket of the stick in case the pot needed some love but that didn't help.

Is my stick dying?

Sounds more like the software to me...I had a stick do that for a while, till the drivers were updated for it...

maybe see if there are new drivers for it now???

I just installed the latest drivers for it the other day, which fixed me up for an evening now it's back to this again. Digging around a bit, maybe I can find a solution. I hope the hardware isn't crapping out on me.

EDIT: Hmm, found this which I'm posting here for easy finding later when I'm at my regular computer.

Calibration isn't actually necessary with the Cyborg evo. If you're finding that the stick seems uncalibrated then simply rotate the handle in a full circle and this should 'remind' the PC of the stick's calibration.
If you find that the stick still seems to 'drift' then try downloading the latest driver for the stick from the downloads page.

If the stick still drifts then try the following:

Unplug the controller, click Start>Run, type

regedit

and click OK. In the Registry Editor browse to the following folders in order:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
MediaProperties
PrivateProperties
DirectInput

And delete the VID_06A3&PID_0464 folder. Plug the controller back in, rotate and twist the stick fully a couple of times and see if that has fixed it.

Yup, they go stoopid after awhile. My TM hotas couger [3rd one] worked good for about 2 years and now radomly freaks out, and then back to normal. And I have tried most everything. Try reflashing and download the latest drivers. Good luck

i have a cyborg evo as well. is yours wireless? if it is, and if you can spare the dough, smash it with a bat, get your self something else. i hate mine, but i'm stuck with it. i wish with all my heart that i hadn't bought the wireless one.

Mine has a wire, so no bat required yet though if the above fix doesn't work I might try that.

If it's a USB stick, Unplug it and reboot several times. Then re-plug it. should be OK then.

Well I followed the instructions in my post above, which didn't seem to help. I've found that reinstalling the drivers make it better for a bit so I guess the the time being I'll just do that before starting up FSX. A minor annoyance, but better than overstressing my AC because of random spikes.
