IslandSimPilot strikes again

If this is the appetizer to FS2024, I can't wait for the main course.
I'm now eagerly awaiting the vision jet's disappearance from marketplace. ;)

Hi All

Can anyone guide me on what steps I need to take to stop all applications opening in Admin Mode. Some where I must have enabled it but can't find the reverse process. In respect of this map enhancement app I can right click and untick admin opening but the admin icon remains on the desktop icon so not sure if its going to open in admin or not!? thanks in advance

Folks, I had the paid version of this when it was the Google Map Enhancement App. It's from the PRC, it took over my system. Leave well enough alone, MSFS updates the Bing/Apple Maps when they become available. DO NOT DOWNLOAD this App!

With all due respect for Cazzie, this app is not the same as the Google Map Enhancement. In my last post I mentioned the problems I had with the Google Map Enhancement. Cazzie is correct about that app. It took a complete new install and computer cleanup to get rid of that application. This app is completely different. It has no lingering effect on Windows or MSFS. You can use it or not which is completely different from the Google version. I used the Bing maps multiple times with no ill effects of any kind. Best of all, if you are not happy with it, delete the app and you are back to where you started. Once again Cazzie is right on regarding the old Google Map Enhancement app. It was a nightmare. This app has brought new life to many areas I fly. I am off today to find more wonderful enhancements to my MSFS scenery.

It shouldn't clash with any installed Orbx scenery. The Bing map replaces the default MSFS map. The Orbx scenery over rides the base map for any area. Just my thought.

Just to add my experience, downtown Toronto looked pretty crisp, but elsewhere I either had snow lined fields and ice pockets, or a sudden colour shift with a very prominent line of data/no data and generic looking light-grey fields where I like to fly most often. It was nice to see plow markings in fields, and the road network looked crisper with overhead signs and intact over passes, but I decided to go back and removed the app. I don't want to mess with a good thing. The sim is looking pretty good to me after SU15. I can wait for Asobo to catch up to the current Bing data.

My post here seems to have vanished. Anyone know why MS just doesn't use the latest Bing data to begin with?

I guess that's because they think that the latest data needs cleaning up for whatever reason. Maybe the maps contain sensitive data?

A couple of days into using the app, here are some thoughts.

1. I have seen vast improvement in some areas, but also some degradation in other areas. The current MSFS version made an attempt at normalizing the world images, (removing clouds, some level of colourization, etc), but the newer Bing maps do not have this hand-crafted touch. It is therefore hit and miss. In some areas I have returned to using the MSFS version.

2. I am seeing performance issues in certain situations. I tried flying the Mach loop in a Spitfire and it was a stutter-fest with the new map. Tried again with the original MSFS data immediately thereafter, and only had the "usual" occasional stutters I am very much used to on my system. I prefer the new images in the Loop, but cannot use them for now.

Selective use will be the ongoing order of the day.

possible there are rights and permissions from several governments surrounding the default Bing maps scenery - as well as the editing work on cloud shadows and colorations etc. I hadn't thought of the permissions but that does seem plausible given the scope of MSFS and the Nations involved.

That's my experience as well. I'll try it here and there to see what it's like, but in the end I'll stick with the default. I am hoping that Asobo and MS will use a cleaned up version of the new data in MSFS2024.

Tom, The creator of this Map Enhancer is the same as the creator of the Google Map Enhancer. First you use the standard, then you are conned into the paid version, then it is all over your Registry. It's a big old goofy world as John Prine says, but download and use at your own risk is what I say, it's a free choice goofy world.

Cazzie, thanks for your reply. With what you say in mind, I will never buy the pro version. This is especially true with MSFS 2024 just around the corner. Hopefully the new version of MSFS will have an updated map. I am happy using the Bing map only for now. Can't be to careful these days. Much appreciated.

Those in the UK (especially S330/360 flyers for Manx Airlines) this fixes the annoying green tile pop-ins around Isle of Man airport (EGNS). Worth using for that alone.!

Figure that out yet?

Truth is Bing does update their maps. In fact if you look online, you will fill Bing Map satellite images to be newer than those on Google Earth online. Many 3rd party creators can't even keep up with the updates. SamScene completely missed Truist Field, the Atlanta Braves new ballpark in their Modern USA Cities series number 2, which contained Atlanta. It shows up in Bing Maps and in MSFS if you turn off Photogrammetry. I do not use any 3rd party weather either, ever one is incorrect and REX Weather Force is a total wreck. I have also tried XEnviro and still find default weather provided by Metroblue to be more realistic for weather in my area. Just remember every time you add a 3rd party scenery add-on, your fps is going to drop and you may find conflicts within the add-on. REX AccuSeason Advanced is the only 3rd party full scenery add-on I have.
