Isolated Mashco-Piro Indians appear in Peru

It totally amazes me that in these times there are still human beings living as tribal "Hunter/Gatherers" in isolation from all our technologies. All you can hope is that the powers-that-be will see to it that they are left alone in their world as it seems they don't really need anything we have to offer........

I wonder about this. Given their living conditions, considered "primitive" by today's standards, is it possible that they suffer unnecessary deaths from minor medical issues, excessive infant mortality, nutritional deficiencies, etc.

Is it reasonable to presume that modern man has nothing valid to offer a group like this ? Is it valid to continue their primitive existance by intentionally withholding some things that could make huge positive differences in their lives ?

Clearly, there are two (or three) ways of looking at this. Hypothetically, if we encountered a lesser advanced group of beings in space, would we be so "hands-off" regardless of what we could do for them ? I doubt that.

When Gene Roddenberry authored the prime directive for his TV show it made good sense, it still does! Leave them be, they know others exist. If they want something they will let it be known.

One of the things pointed out in the article when I read it this morning is that they are to be isolated and contact forbidden just so that they do not receive anything that modern man has to offer, such as disease(s) that the tribe(s) population would not have developed immunity to over the many, many years.
