Italian Radio Chatter

Just a note to let you know I'm still working on it. I had a set back while while recording gvr file ita 03. It is a huge file that contains all the cool chatter that gives you that complete Italian experience. Well, I got it about half way finished and Split GVR froze up on me. Now, it refuses to go back and open up the file so that I can finish it. I can't help but think this is a problem with running an old program (Split GVR) on a new system (Vista). Nothing else to do but start over.

I have been trying to re-record all of the original usa gvr files to make sure you get the full experience. The files recorded by Franz Von Baron are actually smaller and do not have as much duplication. He also leaves out a few things. However, since I am having trouble with this big file I might use his bri03 file as a template in the hopes that this will not happen again.

I am also still working on my thesis and trying to get things put away around the new house so be patient.

I did put the file that Split GVR will not finish (ita03) back into CFS2 and it still works, only its half English and half Italian. Dandolo did a great job recording this. I think after this the rest of the files just duplicate what is already there. I am not sure why this is. Anyway, its still a work in progress. :guinness:

Thank you for the update.

I cannot wait for its release.

I hope you can do one in Russian and a upgrade for the stock American and Japanese Radio speach pack. Its only a request!

Thank you for all your work.:icon29:

PS good luck on your studies!

It does take a lot of time and that time is compounded when Vista causes split GYR to lockup. Instead of working on it a little at a time I am afraid I have to find a large block of time to get one gvr file finished. Sorry about the delay, I am not always a patient person.

Just to let you all know, my life has changed rather quickly. I resigned from USD 349 Stafford, KS about a month and a half ago. My wife and I moved to Wichita (jobless) and bought a new house. Yesterday, I got a phone call from USD 265 Goddard, KS (a bedroom community of Wichita and very close to our home) and they gave me a job. Its not my ideal job. Its a job that could be absolutely fantastic or terrible. I will be teaching science to youths that have been in trouble with the law at a nearby recreational lakeside facility. The good thing is there will be no papers to grade. The bad thing is, they want me to teach summer school starting in July so my vacation may be cut short. I know I keep making excuses for not getting this project finished faster, but sometimes life is what happens when you're busy making other plans (Lennon). What do you think about my new job Rami?

I teach college and i will tell you something, We need a lot of good English teachers. I am getting tired of having to grade essays full of nothing but bad grammar.

I think it is done and ready for beta testing. I will send Dandolo and Miamieagle a copy of the files and anybody else who PMs me. Should be uploaded before too long.

I just tested it and works great!

Thank you.

I highly recommend it. It will increase your enjoyment flying with the Italian Aifrorce ten time fold!

Now a Russian Pack,please!

Thank you for all your work with this project.:medals::icon29::bump::jump::applause:

It does indeed. And again I tell you, Dandolo did an excellent job of recording these files - what an actor! He deserves an oscar, or whatever the award should be called. A Simi maybe. I also want to thank Franz von Baron for allowing the use of his radio static file and some of his gvi and gvt files- and of course for piloting the whole idea. Martin Wright also deserves kudos for his SplitGVR program.

I also want to point out that some of the gvi files needed to make the pack work must be copied and renamed from the original usa01 files. Since these are the intellectual property of Microsoft I cannot upload them along with the ones Franz von Baron made. Therefore, read the instructions carefully.

It may be a while before this is uploaded to the Outhouse because Dandolo513 still has to test them out and give his OK. Since he is the Italian expert I want him to spend some time going over them. I had trouble sending them to him via e-mail the day before yesterday because the sound files are pretty large (8.51 MB). It looks like they went through yesterday though.

I can't wait to get them uploaded. It is nice to be finally making a contribution to the community after all these years of being a taker. I appreciate the fact that I have been accepted by the community despite my lack of contribution. Nobody ever made me feel like I had to contribute, but I always felt guilty. Anyone else who feels the same way can make a big contribution to the community by picking up the ball and doing another pack.

I have posted the method several times and would be glad to help. It does not take any special skills like building an airplane model does. Jackwardmorris came up with a great idea - doing a bomber pack. He said he would give it a shot but he is too young to make the recordings himself. The voice would not sound right. But boy, what a difference it makes in the CFS2 experience to have the radio chatter match the country you are flying for!

I have run across one small problem. I haven't heard anything from the testers, but I assume you guys have heard it to. The sim calls up two chatter files one right after another. For example: "Friendly bombers approaching" and immediately it is followed by, " Bearing one-eight-zero degrees." The problem I am noticing is that in some cases the Italian files overlap causing a distortion of the first message. It sounds like somebody turned up the the speed on the recording. There are a couple of reasons why this is happening. Most likely, the Italian recordings are too long causing the overlap. If this is the case, I will need to find a way to shorten them. A few little experiments will tell is this is the case. Another possibility is that the use of USA and Japanese gvr files as templates do not work together. If that is the case it will take much longer to fix. I will need to remix gvr files ita01 and ita02 using the Japanese gvr files as a template.

Rami, Dandolo, Miamieagle have you heard what I am talking about? Perhaps you could help me by keeping track of the specific chatter messages that are faulty. Your help is appreciated.

Otherwise, I have found the Italian chatter most enjoyable. I just finished Rami's Corpo Aereo Italiano Campaign.

Yes, it would be most helpful if you pause the sim the minute it happens and note the text that appears. Let me know so I can try to trim the offending files. This would be easier than re-recording an entire gvr file.

hello Erufle,
i am sorry but my family troubles have completely requested all my mind and time.
I do not understand what is the trouble because of my sim skills are so poor.
The only thing i think i have understood is You need a new recording of some files.
In this case i will realize the files You will ask to me.
Arrivederci

I am not sure if we need new recordings or not. They may just need a little editing. Some of them may be overlapping causing a distortion. Its no big deal but I want to try and fix it before they are released. I have not had a chance to fly in a couple of weeks so I have not looked into it. Maybe by next weekend I will be flying again and can pinpoint the problem files. :icon29:

Hello,
i have troubles on listenig chatter . i have installed on sound - radio folder but when i fly i have to push shift+7 or 8 etc to listen radio communications. I mean, when i play on japanese or german site the communications go by themselves and i can listen screams, fight orders etc.
So, what i have to do to listen in the same way italian chatter , for example, flying Corpo Aereo Italiano?
thanks
dandolo513

I'm not sure why it would be that way. Right now I am trying to fine tune the problem with gvr files overlapping by flying the old DAF Italian campaign and it sounds beautiful. Works great. I finished the Corpeo Aereo Italiano campaign a couple of weeks ago. That's when I discovered the overlapping. But this has nothing to do with your problem. If they work at all it should play automatically as long as as you have these settings in the country cfg:

[country.6]
name=Italy
short_name=ITA
nationality=Italian

I am not sure what shift+7 or 8 does (does it turn on the communications?) but I will do some flying today and get back with you. Meanwhile you might check the readme again. Sometimes CFS2 turns off the sounds when you restart the game. It sounds like that is what is happening to you. There is no cure for this as far as I know. It happens to me a lot. CFS2 will also reset the video settings automatically even when you tell it not to.

hello Erufle,
i think i have made a mistake on installing the italian chatter pack.
my country file is ok but i cannot listen the communications from pilots.
so i would like to know the right way to install the pack.
thanks
arrivederci.

Have you checked the DP file of the plane you're flying?. I think it should also be marked as allegiance=6 (Italy in the standard country.cfg) in the [MISC_DATA] section.

As long as you are flying a campaign that uses country 6 the sim will call up the language pack specified by this line in the country cfg file:

short_name=ITA

What it does is search the radio folder for gvr, gvi, and gvt files that have the prefix ita, as in ita01.gvr. I am not sure how many people even noticed it but you can use the country cfg file to tell CFS2 which country you usually fly out of. Since I have been testing the Italian radio pack I have made an install called "CFS2 Italian" and have changed the default country to Italy. To do this, I simply changed the very first line in the country cfg file to read this:

[defaults]
country=6

But this has nothing to do with Dandolo's problem.

Dandolo, the zip file I sent you yesterday CANNOT be installed over the previous version. This is because I changed the template I used for gvr files ita01 and ita02. To get the lastest version to work correctly you must COPY ALL of the Japanese gvi and gvt files (jpn01 through jpn07) and rename them ita01 through ita07.

There are many reasons for doing this. I listed some of them in the readme so I won't go through them again here. The bottom line is this:

Delete all of the old Italian language files and start over. If you have problems understanding the readme let me know. I do think it is actually more strait forward than the last beta pack I sent out. There is also the possibility that the files were corrupted in transit. If you think you installed them correctly let me know and I will send them to you again. Past experience tells me it is not always easy to get large uploads all the way to Italy from here. However, I zipped up the files directly from my working install so they should work if installed correctly.
