... I'm intending to revamp a new section of CFS-2 I haven't before... the airbases...

Up to this point, I have been terrified of even touching this section of CFS-2. I fear that I will lose some of my favorite airfields (Hollandia, Henderson, etc...). However, I have decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and give this a shot.

I am starting with Pen32Win's Wewak installation; I just downloaded everything I need to get it going. I'm wondering if I have to delete the old Wewak stuff in order for the new one to come in nicely. If so, how? And where do I find the files to delete? And yes, I will be putting in a new Henderson field, which I think Maskrider has done, but I'm not sure... one thing's for sure... the original CFS-2 Henderson ain't close to the real one!

Any advice as I take on this rather huge and impossible endeavour? I KNOW this is going to be so worth it... but I'm determined to make CFS-2 even more fun by flying out of some really nice bases!

ANY encouragement would be great! :kilroy:

Actually putting in the scenery is pretty easy,I 've never had any problems with it.I have MR Henderson field installed.Just follow the readme and you should have no problems. There also more down loads you're going to need for MR scenery. They should all be listed in his readme.

Airfields

You're on the right track now DD. Airfields are very easy to install. the trick is getting all the required library objects, but MR, Achim, Jaxon, Pen32 and the other designers have very good readme files included in with their aerodromes and tell you where to get the stuff. If that fails, search for Miameagle's posts on CFS 2 links. He is our "official" Librarian Emeratus when it comes to finding CFS 2 stuff.

You won't need to delete airfields for the most part, as the download files will usually wipe the slate clean when you install them. The GSL scenery files will delete the stock MS stuff and the scenery .bgl files will cover up the old.

Follow the instructions in the readme file for where to install everything. I usually put them in my "Addon" folder, but many people also place them in their "Scenedb" folder. Either place works fine. You may also have to place a few textures in your main CFS 2 Scenery folder, but the readme file will point that out if needed. Once installed, the only thing left to do is to activate them through your CFS 2>Options>Scenery Library>Add option.

I made up a quick tutorial on activating scenery a while back so I'll include it here for you.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Adding scenery to CFS 2 is (after the first couple installations) very easy. CFS 2 is built so that we, the users, can add and subtract almost every item in the aircraft, ship, vehicle and scenery libraries.
1. First step is to read the "Readme" file that comes with each download. If the author wrote it correctly, it will contain the needed info to install it. Usually scenery files are a stand alone folder to be placed in your "Addon" folder or your "SCENEDB" folder. Airfields and mesh files are in this class.
2. Once you have pasted the new folder into the Addon or SCENEDB folder, you need to activated it so that CFS 2 knows where to find it when needed.
A. Start CFS 2
B. From the Splash Screen, click on "Settings"
C. From the Settings Window, Click on "Scenery Library"
D. Click on "Add Area" and use the drop down menu to go to the Addon or SCENEDB folder
E. Click on your new scenery folder. If it is an airfield, move it down to just above the "Airport Facilities Data" entry using the "Move Down" button on the right side of the window
F. If it is a Mesh add on, move it down to near the bottom of the higherarchy list.
Attached below are some screen shots of the process.
GSL scenery takes another step, but we can hold off on that.
Texture files for water and land go into the CFS 2 > SCENEDB > World > Texture folder. Many users copy and past all of the files from this folder over to the CFS 2 > Texture folder. This is called globalizing and is used by the seasonal and Euro texture packages by Rhumbaflappy and SdC.
Hope this is of some help.

Pen32Win's scwneryas does Maskrider's new Henerso will/should automatically overwrite and replace the stock scenery at those locations. That's why you should make a backup copy of the original CFS2GSL file, so if you want the originals back, you can resore them.

Hey DD;

The new Wewak scenery will overwrite the stock GSL (that's the buildings) but the Landclass (Ground Textures) and the stock airstrip will remain. It's all in the READ_ME file. Even how to change the name of the stock strip to something closer to the reality of its location.

Once you get a few custom fields loaded you'll be a lot less concerned with the Stock Big Brown Blobs.

SW is correct, always back up your GSL file even though you can get them back from the CAB files.

If you see a package talks about "Excludes" or Exclusions" it's a good hint they're using them to get rid of the stock scenery. Same goes for Landclass files.
