It's COLD!

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
Today, here in "Sunny" Mansfield, Ohio, the temp was 11 degrees as the high, with wind chill of -6. And it's not even winter yet! Tonight the temps are expected to drop well into the single digit range with wind chill of -20. I had to go out and about today in the 20 to 35mph winds, blowing snow and bitter cold. The dogs were out of cookies...and you'd be amazed at how violent an 8 pound and a 12 pound dog can get after being drug outside in the freezing cold, to walk around on ice, and trying to pee into 20 mph winds..then be brought inside and be told that they have no cookies.

At one point Hazel, the 8 pound Chihuahua with the mentality of a Boxer/Lab mix, stood up on her hind legs, looked me in the eyes and said "Wad do yu meen we don't git a cukee? Yu made me go outside in da freekin cold, freeze me liddle feets off....and I get no cukkee? Yu want your ankles torn off fat man? And beesides, the cat doesn't hav to go out in da cold....no, his fat furry butt has a box in the tostee warm closet he gets to go potty in. Yu bedder go git some cukees or else!"

So out into the cold I go, fearful of what might happen if I drag the dogs outside for even a single potty break without the reward of a crunchy cheeze flavored cookie afterward. When I was in the store buying two large bags of doggie cookies, I also bought something I have not bought in a couple decades. Gloves! My fingers were frozen! I haven't owned a pair of gloves in 20 years or so....but today I bought a nice pair of Thinsulate lined gloves...and a Thinsulate lined sweat shirt. Would have bought a Thinsulate lined hoodie, but they only had my size in white....me and white clothing do not go together well.

I also filled the van with gas, did the bulk of the month's grocery shopping, picked up most of the other odds and ends that we need.....I don't plan on going anywhere for the next few days. Temps are going to be low, low, low most of this week. I will be sitting nice and toasty either in front of my puter or in my comfy chair in the livingroom.

It's 7:00 PM here and we have 19F. The wind chill is +2. It's freaking COLD! It wouldn't be too bad if this damned wind would let up. Instead, it is supposed to pick up some! Double COLD!! Burrr!!

Unseasonably cold here too. The low last night was 13 with a windchill of 4. Supposed to be colder tonite. I'm only going out for the mandatory stuff like feed the horses or stuff we can't do without at the store.

Vickie got me a set of those thinsulate gloves a couple of weeks ago. They seem to work better than most gloves, but when I'm giving the horses their cookies, I have to do it with bare hands.

It's a bit on the nippy side here in Northwest Indiana (Chicagoland) as well. Yesterday was really rough. There were up to 53 knot winds at KGYY. Needless to say, the airport was closed most of the day!

Willy, Thinsulate is the best insulation I've found so far. I hunt a good bit this time of year so I'm out in the weather a lot. I've tried almost everything that's affordable and Thinsulate is the winner so far.

EDIT: It hasn't been as cold here as it has been north of here, but it's been more than cold enough to suit me!

It's so cold here in Chicago that the Chicago Bears football team decided to stand around like frozen snowmen during the game yesterday.....:snowman:

I think it is going down to 8 degrees tonight, here in Farner, TN. Chief and I went out to retrieve load of firewood for the night. Wood stove roaring for third night. Should warm up by Thursday, hopefully.

My electric bill (if I can keep this wood stove going enough) will be a lot less!

NC

Supposed to get down to 10 on this end of the state NC. I'm ready for it to warm up.

Here on the Gulf coast,Sarasota,Venice,Ft.Meyers.....its now 45deg...later this early AM it will be
31deg...FREEZING!...The Manatees are effected, they die,.of course Oranges, grapefruits, most tropical plants..will freeze..even the Gators are not moving much.....same last year...record low temps, and its not winter yet!!.......a few weeks ago it was in the high 80s....World Upside down!!

+24.6F at Norfolk International (KORF) as I type this. I know, tropical compared to what other people are having but my blood has thinned out a bit since my youth in Chicago. :)

Exposing a bare hand for any length of time in the cold air is definitely unpleasant. I try to use glove liners (thin gloves) in cold weather (<15F). However, the fuel measuring devices for the planes require a bare finger (calibrated, hollow tubes that use a finger to produce suction). Refueling can also be a real pain though gloves can be used the whole time. I am glad we don't usually have the winds with cold here.

37ºƒ here in Sunny Orlando at 12:03 am
It will go as low as 27ºƒ between 6 am to 7 am where kids starts going to school...
And YES, it is NOT winter yet!
... I packed my winter clothes already in my suitcases for a trip to AZ in about 7 days!
I think I have to dig it back!

I covered my plants with blankets the other night,
They need to stay covered tonight as well...

My car would not start earlier this afternoon...
Juice is probably too frozen!

Current weather report from KMFD (3 miles west of my house) is 7 degrees, 13 MPH winds and a wind chill of 0 degrees. It is so cold the dryer is having a hard time drying the laundry. The cold wind is blowing against the back of the house...which is were the dryer vent is located. The cold air is blowing down the vent, into the dryer and freezing my clean undershorts. I may have to go commando until Spring.
