I have a few planes that have custom backdrops, Bill Lyons IIRC plus a few others, don't suppose you know how to do that? I wanted to add a nice backdrop to a B17 :d

I installed the image into Golden Wings...and it was a bit scrambled. Installed the image viewer background from a stock install into Golden WIngs and it worked fine. Not sure why the new one won't work in Golden Wings....or maybe it's just the gremlins in my machine again.

JD, anything that shows up different in the viewer is part of the model. You should be able to find the texture and alter it for that model, but that's it.

OBIO - make sure the file's still 512x512 8-bit. If not, let me know and I'll email you one unzipped.
 
Tom, thanks for replying, been messing around and came to the same conclusion, shame, would be nice to have custom backgrounds for your favs.

works beautifully in my GW3, no idea what would be causing your woes I'm afraid. My 'bit'o'lace' works if I put it in the uires folder, but not in the B17 tex folder, was hoping it would :(
 
I checked the file...it is 512 by 512, 8-bit, indexed. Just as it should be. But it doesn't work in my GW3. The stock cloud background from FS9 will work in GW3, but not the new one. Here's what it looks like in GW3
 
Here's the new splash screen I made for my Golden Wings General Aviation install. If anyone wants to use it, simply save the image to your desk top, open it with a paint program and save it as a bmp. Drop it into your UIRES folder and enjoy.

Obio - I'm stumped as to why the bitmap's not working. On a lark, I saved a copy using the "Flip Row Order" option in Photoshop Elements. I had absolutely no clue if it would do anything different, but what the heck. I put it in the Uires folder and FS wouldn't even start. I'm certain there's something different, but what it is I don't know. When I get some time, I'll try to compare mine wilth the factory version.

Sorry Tom, t'aint working on my rig. Works the first time then the second or third plane change that black "I'm thinking" screen stays black. The ole "is not responding" gorgon takes over. Thanks anyway.
