Ivan Jurcaga Mig-21MF soon! (now released)

Someone asked me about this, so I finished it. Went up on flightsim.

Its basically unflyable. Can't seem to change the trim nor get the green light on warning panel for takeoff trim to illuminate. My key assignments haven't changed, still Num 7-trim down, Num 1-trim up. Strange when I try it the numbers change next to my radio frequencies. Even tried elevator pitch down-num 8, pitch up-num 2. The joystick moves back and forth but no change to flight trim. I believe I have all the right switches thrown, such as aileron boost etc. I've gone over the procedures for the cockpit...am I missing something here? Can someone who flys her, kindly clarify the trim procedure.

Wait for MiG-21bis for DCS :icon_lol: http://www.dcs-mig21.com/ .

You can open the aircraft CFG file and scroll down to the flight tuning section and edit the elevator trim effectiveness by increasing the number value. It's set at 1.000 so you might want to try 1.500 and from there either add or subtract the value. At the original setting, it takes a while holding down the "up-trip" button to get the TO trim green light to come on.

Keep the trim button/key pressed longer. The trim is slow. The light WILL turn green after a few seconds.

Thanks for the info. I'll try keeping the trim button pressed longer,as I was just pressing it repeatedly. This seems dangerously unresponsive for a fighter jet. Actually got the green trim light light up once, managed take off, flew around for a while trying to trim it neutral, all to no avail. Landing approach was equally unnerving. Quite frustrating, although I'm not quite ready to give it up and delete it from my hangar. Probably try the cfg file mod as well as a download I have somewhere that changed the flight dynamics. I'm surprised at this glaring defect in design given the amount of work that went into the rest of the plane.

Anyone tried assigning the trim controls to the rotary 1 button or precision slide on a Saitek X-52 throttle? I had no luck attempting it.

I have the X52 as well but I believe that the trim in the sim works like a momentary switch and not like a rotary wheel. Hence what may be happening is that you are running out of trim range or it's not working at all. Try setting your second hat switch(the left one) or designating one of the two buttons on the right of the stick as up & down trim. The setting I last mentioned regarding the trim_effectiveness in the Cfg-Flight tuning section, 1.500 will help but DO NOT go above that setting as mayhem will result! Regarding the flight dynamics, with the exception of the Yaw Stability being too high(which causes the plane to right itself to wings level while in a bank), the FD's are pretty close to the real thing. Having reviewed a number of pilot reports and talking to a couple of Mig-21 pilots, the Mig-21 has a lot of limits to it's envelope at high and low speeds. The available G's diminish greatly below 300 and 200 knots indicated which translates to more limited control authority, looser/less precise handling and PIO tendency. At high speeds(near the upper KIAS/Mach number limits, there are heavy longitudinal stick forces that again limit available G/control moments. Below 400kts, the Mig-21 bleeds energy rapidly in a 5 to 6 G turn and as a result(mentioned above), you lose available G.

You can program the X52 throttle scroll wheel to control elevator trim: Wheel Scroll Up = Num 7, Wheel Scroll Down = Num 1

I'll check and get back to you, but I don't think there is a dedicated switch. Instead, the lighting is "built-in" to appear when it is dark enough in FSX.

Also, noting your post from a few months ago...I at least have had no problems with the trim function. I have it assigned to my upper "coolie hat" on my X-52 system. It does take some practice to land the jet, as it requires some fairly high speeds due to its narrow, delta shape. Let me know if you are having further difficulties with it. Quick note: you will have to have around 80-85% engine power applied throughout your final approach.

Yes, I've sorted out the trim issue from back then. Flies great. As for the cockpit lighting, it seemed dark enough out, pre-dawn and couldn't see the instrumentation. Thought it might be a combination of switches witth the NAV light.

which values are correct?

Thanks a lot in advance

I am really sorry for digging this old thread up, but the issue I am about to talk is connected with the great Ivan's MiG-21MF.
Currently I am working on conversion of the MiG into Arma2 game. I have already got permissions granted from most authors involved (including additional liveries - again many thanks gentlemen). However, I would like to add some liveries to the package and looking for Dag's paint kit. I would ask Dag directly, but he have not left any contact e-mail here. If anyone of you is in possesion of the paint kit could you sent me it via PM or just link it here?
I would appreciated it much!
Thanks :)

Dag comes through here often. You might try a PM.

Has anyone noticed that when we add fuel in external fuel tank from FS Fuel Load, it just wont work. For example, Centre, Left and Right main tanks are 700 gallons in total, but after you have the external tank appeared (belly) and add whatever value, press OK, then you still get 700 gallons. When I Check the Fuel Load within FS manager, the External tank seems reverting back to 0,0. The MiG could only carry 85% fuel in my case. Or is it just me?

Thanks, EXCELLENT aircraft, the best Russian fsx fighter out there

Hello,

Unfortunately I have lost the psds for this paint kit so I cannot help I'm afraid. I think Jens-Ole or Zsolt has it. They have my permission to pass it on to you, should they have it.

Best regards
Dag
