I just got around to picking up KJAC from ORBX. Wow. Great FPS and the feel of flying in to a real and active airport. This is the best variety of static and AI aircraft I've ever seen. Plus, it's surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery to explore. If you have CRM, you MUST purchase this airport!

Well, they have the parking spot in the right place for the CRJ-700...maybe they could have been a little more in front of the terminal, though. I've personally parked one there in front of the terminal about 35-ish times, lol.

Had a meeting with an IT vendor this morning, and when she mentioned CRM, I immediately thought of ORBX.
Time to retire apparently.

It's nice scenery but there's not a lot of options as far as airports go... there's driggs, ID and Yellowstone, WY and that's about it....

Bozeman, MT (KBZN) (A major international hub for Yellowstone vacationers both summer and winter, a lot of private jet traffic.)
Billings, MT (KBIL) (Busiest international airport in Montana)
Big Timber, MT (6S0) (Used to be a few celebrities had places in the area, wasn't uncommon to see private jets parked here.)
Bridger, MT (6S1)
Columbus, MT (6S3)
Dell, MT (4U9)
Dillon, MT (KDLN)
Ennis, MT (KEKS) (Nice airport)
Gardiner, MT (29S) (Interesting approach down a canyon)

Livingston, MT (KLVM)
Red Lodge, MT (KRED)
Three Forks, MT (9S5) (Home of the headwaters of the Missouri River and nicely done in the Orbx CRM scenery)
Twin Bridges, MT (7S1)

Idaho Falls, ID (KIDA) (Another hub for Yellowstone vacationers)
Pocatello, ID (KPIH) (Another big airport)
Aberdeen, ID (U36)

Thermopolis, WY (KTHP) (Great hot springs)
Pinedale, WY (KPNA)
Powell, WY (KPOY)
Worland, WY (KWRL)

Airports within a roughly 200nm radius.
This doesn't include the numerous private strips in the area... :salute:

Gee thanks for that insight...

I'm talking little strips relatively close that I can hop in and out of... there's none. It's more than 15 mile to Driggs (and that's if you can climb over the tetons vfr). There's a little private strip south of town, and you've got Dubois about 45 mi east, WYS is even further than that to the north.

The scenery is impressive but nothing like the little PNW airports where you can stop at many different strips in short time.

I'm sure they were appealing to the tubeliner crowd when they made the airport.

Hey, you're more than welcome.
I wanted to put up the list for all who are enjoying the KJAC scenery, like me, to give them some destination options.

Dig out a chart, you'll find some interesting private strips, if that is what you are looking for instead.
Try "Kinky Creek", a private strip to the ESE of KJAC.
Private Dude Ranch airstrip, Orbx did a nice job on it. ;)

CRM. Crew Resource Management. One of the biggest things harped on in aviation, over and over and over. :)

I'm looking at skyvector... they are still relatively far away...

How close do you want them to be? 15 miles is pretty close, for flying. Much closer and you wouldn't really be in the air for long.

Try flying down to Afton. It's a scenic trip and there are several nice FTX enhanced airports along the way.

LOL I do CRM for a living.

most of the surrounding area is national park and/or national forest land. The only reason KJAC even exists (It's inside Grand Teton NP) is that it was in operation before the feds made the park (and there was a near armed insurrection by the state of Wyoming over the town of Jackson) so, no, not a big location for a lot of small strips. This is a "Jet Setter" Airport, lots of rich people and celebs fly in here to visit the park/ski/other stuff in a way it's like aspen. there is quite a history as well of Cattle Freight flights out of here as well. and of course some tubeliner flights. so if you want to fly from one local to another, be prepared to fly more than ten minutes :) but if you want to take off, tour some of the country's best wild scenery and return, this would be the place.

Yup.
I know and agree.
I used to live/work/recreate in this area for many, many years.
Why I felt compelled to put up a list of good destination airports to fly to.
Ones that could be easily flown to within an hour or so using the Realair Lancair Legacy, for example. ;)
