if you download the FTX Demo - there are two (2) weather themes that come with it - 'Orbx weather 1' and 'Orbx weather 2'

those clouds are in 'Orbx weather 1' but both of those themes are really great.

I also use 'reduced cloud textures' at 256bit instead of the default 512 - otherwise clouds kill my FPS

Got'em from the Australian demo, but how to get the 256 bit clouds.

reduced clouds

there is also one called 'reduced trees' and I could not get the FPS I am getting without these two files...and you really don't even notice the difference..infact I think the reduced clouds have a better look about them...more misty looking maybe

Dude - let me know your results...I think you will be pleased - I couldnt get good frames even in 'fair' weather before...now I get good FPS even in storms.

Those files were pivotal for me on this rig and saved me from an early upgrade... I can now hold out until neoqb releases RoF and 1c gets SoW out the door.

But do remember to back up your texture folder before you run those files - just incase you dont like them (not likely but better to be safe...)

what?

I have no idea what you mean, lol, oh well, probably don't need to know.

Backup certainly, will check on fps.

Thanks for help on trees and clouds. Did my first flight in the F-86 with full cloud draw distance, full clouds in a thunderstorm, then dived down in the same storm for on the deck with trees at max autogen at just over 500 KIAS.

Yes, the appearance isn't noticable and the fps are up, clearly improved. Such a flight in the F-86 would have been a slide show with a stutter every now and then lasting a second, or even 2 seconds, so my first test flight is a celebration.

I'll have to catch up on the other programs but this thread will be for the Saber.

I remain convinced that this Saber is amazing in FSX SP2 Accel and now I've improved fps again. Stunning. :ernae:

Hi Björn,

I followed your instructions in "SectionF8 F-86 Sabre interim FSX upgrade revision 1.1" religiously but find I am missing the following textures:

F86JVIN.DDS
F86JV_RECTPARTS.DDS
FRAMES2.DDS
GLAS_VCMID.DDS

There are f86jv_glas_vcmid.dds and f86jv_frames2.dds in texture.shared but not those mentioned above.

If the model is displaying correctly, I would stop worrying about those textures.
I've never seen or heard of those textures before and never got any reports about them missing (even from Jan). They weren't included in the original installation package as well (can't check though; I'm 270kms away from FSX right now).

Bjoern - this plane seems to have an interesting effect.

there is a transient 'gleam' or 'shine' element that moves across the polished aluminium exterior of the jet at regular intervals (about every 6-8 seconds or so) - it looks very realistic - but I think it causes a slight stutter on my mid-range rig...and might also be responsible for some of the terrain texture loss I am experiencing with this plane as it appears to come at a slight penalty in FPS as an extra 'draw call'

Is this possible ?

and can the effect be canceled - or is it built in to the model?

Wow, it works just great in FSX on my laptop, even with smoke!
What a brilliant model! I only have a feeling that the shine is a bit brighter in FSX, I may have to tone down the alpha a bit.
I didn't convert to dds textures btw, wouldn't know why?

That won't work, Jan Kees, that's 'specular highlighting' you see there, baked into the model, not into the textures ( that's 'reflectivity' and is already pretty low ) Just wait til i'm done with the native FSX version... :d

Groeten,
Jan

I guess I keep forgetting that this is an Fs9 model :kilroy:

I just dont want to fly anything else - you guys have changed the game so much with this Sabre :ernae:

Bjoern,

Thanks for taking the time to put together the conversion files for the Sabre. I just now got around to installing the F-86, and not only is the aircraft itself a true work of art, but the converter is an excellent time saver.

That said, I'm running into a couple of problems that have me stumped, so I was hoping someone here could help me (and yes, I have ****).

For some odd reason, the speedbrakes seem to go haywire every time I use them. If I input either a joystick (button or slider, it doesn't matter) command or hit the / key, the speedbrakes will start opening and closing on their own in an endless loop, and there seems to be no way to stop them.
I've tried un-assigning the speedbrakes from my joystick to see if that was the problem, but hitting the / key results in the exact same thing happening, so I don't think this is a hardware issue.

Watching from the VC or 2d throttle panel, the speedbrake switch on the throttle never moves while this is happening, but the emergency speedbrake control is moving in sync with the speedbrakes, and trying to click or drag it also does nothing.

I have discovered that if I go into the 2d panel and set the speedbrake switch on the throttle to the "in" position, the brakes will close and stay there, but as soon as I set the switch back to the neutral position, they start the open-close cycle again.

It appears that whatever is causing this is just affecting the visual model, since the aircraft seems to respond to the speedbrake command I gave it, regardless of the fact that the brakes are flapping around in the visual model, or stuck closed if I do that.

Finally, it looks like some of the textures for the top of the right hand console are missing. I see the most of radio controls there, but the underlying texture looks like it's just the 3d model, since some of the radios are missing their underlying textures. I tried re-intalling the Sabre and conversion pack, but that area always ends up missing some textures, so I'm stumped.

I'm still holding off on installing the FS9 model - would rather wait for the true FSX F-86. Mind you it's getting harder and harder given all the glowing tributes for the work on the F-86.

I don't think I've seen another aircraft - payware or freeware - generate this much interest and excitement. :applause::applause:
