JockHA / Golden Age / DC-2 Uiver

Great to see such an excellent long run into Bucharest. The Uiver is a legend!

Leg 02 LRBS-ORBI, Alt OSAP

Time get in the air again, loaded with 3 pilots, full fuel and a lot of coffee.
:engel016:

Just passed NDB BUK (Ankara, Turkey).
Specific Range (nm/gal) calculations based on burned fuel lookes fine for destination Bagdad.

Landed "safe" with damaged engines in the middle of Turkey

Engine fire warning. I overboosted them. :banghead:

I was able to keep enough speed to land "safe" in between some mountains.

Not sure how this penalized yet and how to carry on.

Firstly, nice recovery in getting her down safely Jock!

Landing near LTAU or any field in Turkey for the Golden Age Class, is not a Prepared Refueling Point so unfortunately you get hit with an one hour "Uncertainty Cost". You can then continue on from LTAU (or another airport nearest your landing spot no closer to ORBI) without further penalty.

Well done finding a place to land Jock and executing a safe off-field landing. :applause:

I've had that happen too... even after "someone" warned me to be careful (tho you probably remember).

Fire suppression didn't work btw?

Whoa, nice save there Jock. A real bit of luck getting down in one piece. It's almost criminal that 2 smoked engines, a tow to the airfield and refuelling is only gonna cost you an hour, I'm thinking you stole your race worths of good luck in one incident. Good work, and good luck you you.
:ernae:

I had one of those problem landings last time we did this race. It was over eastern Iran with the DH-89 Dragon Rapide.

I apparently hit the M key and turned off the magentos. Successfully glided into a landing on the fairly flat desert. Made a decent takeoff after I figured out the problem.

Ruling

A (1) hour penalty is being applied on Jock’s first run. The 15,000’ hard ceiling for Golden Age aircraft was exceeded. It should be noted that Jock was not intentionally violating the rule. He had forgotten about the altitude restrictions and accepted the penalty.

Moses for the Committee.

Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that there is a planned remake of a remake of a movie.

Could this have been a secret location-scouting diversion? Do we get a share of possible royalties?

You were not supposed to reveal that information.

Sorry, but now you have lost your part of the royalties.

Land spot - ORBI

After a quick (1 hour penalty) on spot repair of the engines,
we continue with same fuel to Bagdad.

Duenna say I landed 1.6 nm from OR0S, but I did land at ORBI 15L.
That can be verified by the attached FSX Flight Analysis.

OR0S is very close to ORBI.

Good One!!

Nice recovery Jock!,

I tried everything I knew to get to where I would be able to fly that plane in this event.

I guess I was just a little bit too heavy handed with always looking for more speed.

I just couldn't settled down enough to be satisfied with close enough and enjoy the ride. It's really a great model and a lot of fun to fly,,,,even the right way....:icon_lol:

Anybody that flies that plane is going to have a mis-hap or maybe two,,,,[quick,,,knock on wood!]

Super job getting it down in one piece and keeping cool,,,better still to get back up and finish the trip.

Best of luck all the way to Melbourne!
