John Travolta uses his 707 for Haiti relief

I've not belittled anyone's contribution in the slightest. I've belittled the fact he wears captain's stripes when by my (and just about all pilot's definitions) he isn't a captain.

Osama Bin Laden could make a hefty donation, which I would appreciate, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with his views and methods.

Regardless this is my last post in this thread.
maybe your last post on this site

I have sent a PM requesting that this thread be locked....it has taken on a political/religious/personal nature that I truly hoped that it would not.

Somehow that wouldn't surprise me. :bump:

On another note, his 707 is absolutely beautiful. If you haven't seen it in real life before, you're missing out. It was spotless when I saw it at EAA. He must have a (nicely paid) air crew that really cares about the plane. :ernae:

I couldn't care less about what license or training he has or doesn't have. I'd do anything to have my own 707 (and afford to upkeep and fly it).

Pssst Obio, yer staff, can't you lock it on yer own? :173go1:

It was parked here at Deer Valley; Phoenix for about a week. It was like a show plane. They seem like they are slightly smaller then a 737. I had always imagined them as being huge, but you look at them now and they seem smaller. Kind of looks like a small B-52.

But man... Clean!!! Like a mirror. Super polished. I felt bad for it as we have a high dust environment in Phoenix. (No rain, just nice dusty breezes).

Yep he did own a Connie at one time...

The second Constellation to join the airshow circuit was Vern Raburn's "MATS Connie", C121A N494TW. This aircraft is an ex-USAF VIP transport, which was converted to a sprayer in the early 1970's. An interesting note on this aircraft is that she was owned by the actor John Travolta for a short time during the mid-1980's.

If I buy a large yacht but don't hold maritime ratings: I will wear a captain hat.

If I buy a spaceship: I will call myself an astronaut and wear a spacesuit even though I haven't struggled through any country's demanding program.

I used to fly avionics testing (airborne checks on GA leaving upgrades and maintenance) for the free hours. I offered my services to shops I was buddied up with for 'test' flying. Noone ever got snippy with me and called me a wannabe because i was no Bob Hoover.

John Travolta honestly seems like a good guy. I've never had to hear about him cheating on his wife or going to rehab for coke.

My only complaint about John Travolta is he needs to quit with the cheesy Disney movies!

He's done a good thing pitching in. :ernae:

Resident library service springs to life...
Travolta's 707 is a collector's item.
It's one of a very rare breed: the 707-138.
Think of it as the 707 SP, launched by Qantas for extended range.
In addition to the increased range, the 707-138 also includes a 10 foot reduction to the rear fuselage making it the shortest 707 produced.(134 ft) and around 100 pax mixed-class.
The B737-900 comes in at 138 ft with 177 pax typical mixed-class.
Sharing the same fuselage cross-section, the 737 would indeed look bigger, because it is!
Well spotted Bill.
'ere's a little scale art for you, and also John when he's at home not ferrying goodwill to the far corners of the Caribbean.
Wonderful, eh?

Course, he doesn't always wear a uniform .................... :mixedsmi:

Wow didn't know the 737 had grown so much and is now just as big as the smaller 707

Thanks Wing_Z for that info.

They seem to be very similar in size. I dont know why it seemed small to me. Maybe being at a small airport surrounded by Beech Kingairs..

I didnt know he got rid of that awesome Connie. What a sharp plane.

Bill

That Connie wasn't in that good of a shape when Travolta owned it. It's the one that was airworthy and then sold a few years ago to Korean Air to become a static display in Korea. Kind of sad to see it as a static now when it could have still been flying.
